Undertaker is one of two new characters in Elden Ring: Nightreign, and she excels in Strength and Faith, making her a powerful Nightfarer. The “Forsaken Hollows” expansion introduced an abbess known for dealing consistent high damage and her skillful dodging.
If you bought the expansion, you’ll first need to beat the initial boss to unlock the Undertaker character. After that, you can explore her abilities, weapons, and relics. This guide has everything you need to start playing as the Undertaker in Elden Ring: Nightreign.
Undertaker’s Skills Overview

Undertaker’s special ability, called Confluence, is a major strength. Whenever a teammate uses their Ultimate Art, you’ll have a short window to use yours, even if your own Ultimate gauge isn’t full. Look for your indicator to glow pink – that’s your cue!
Your Ultimate Art can briefly interrupt enemy attacks, even those from bosses. To make the most of it with your passive ability, wait three seconds before using it. Other classes’ Ultimate Arts usually stagger bosses automatically, but yours doesn’t do that right away. Waiting a few seconds will ensure it successfully staggers your target.
Her special ability is Trance, which boosts your character’s Defense, Poise, and movement speed. This lets you run at a faster pace without using stamina for sprinting. Repeatedly attacking enemies builds up an Attack buff. Plus, your roll transforms into a quick step, and perfectly timed dodges put you in a strong position.

You can use this skill immediately, or you can charge it up to make the effect last longer. You’re free to move, run, and dodge while charging, so it’s best to always charge it for maximum benefit.
Undertaker is unique because she can power up her abilities using her Ultimate Art. When her special gauge is full, instead of using the Art immediately, activate Trance. This will make the buff last longer and significantly boost her attack power. While in this enhanced Trance state, she’ll also automatically dodge incoming attacks.
Undertaker’s strongest ability, Loathsome Hex, launches her at a targeted enemy, damaging everything she brushes against. The attack finishes with a close-range blast. While the damage isn’t huge, it’s excellent for stopping enemy attacks mid-action. Plus, thanks to her abilities and good teamwork, you can use it up to three times in a row.
Loathsome Hex allows for long-distance flight, but keep in mind it has a limited range. If you fly too far, it will stop before you reach your target.
The Best Weapons For Undertaker

Because the Undertaker’s Faith ability rewards fast attacks, it’s best to use quick, close-range weapons. A great example is Marika’s Hammer – it’s a fast-hitting Legendary weapon, and its Holy damage makes it potentially the best weapon in the game.
The Gargoyle’s Black Axe is a powerful, but rare, weapon. If you can’t find it, don’t worry! Any weapon that benefits from high Strength will work just fine – there are plenty of options like hammers, axes, and other large melee weapons. While heavier weapons might slow you down a bit, as long as you’re dealing significant damage, you’ll be effective.
The Best Relics For Undertaker

Undertaker’s quest rewards are powerful! The items you unlock – the Leather Monocle Case and the Glass Necklace – significantly boost her abilities. The Monocle Case increases her Physical Attack, while the Glass Necklace improves her Attack Power, speeds up her Ultimate Art charge, and provides an additional Attack Power boost after using it.

When facing the new bosses, prioritize obtaining The Balancers’ relic. It significantly increases Undertaker’s melee and skill attack power. If you manage to defeat the alternate boss, Weapon-Bequeathed Harmonia, you’ll unlock The Will of Balance relic. This relic functions similarly to The Balancers’, but the effects can be stacked for even greater power.

After choosing your main equipment, you can further customize your build with various relics, depending on the vessel you’re using. For instance, the Grand Tranquil Scene relic, exclusive to this character, increases your Strength and Faith and enhances your attacks after performing combos. You can purchase it from the Small Jar Bazaar for 1,000 Murk.
I suggest getting the Soot-Covered Undertaker’s Urn. It has spaces for one blue and two red items, making it ideal if you have two Balancers relics. You can purchase it from the Collector for four Sovereign Sigils.
Tips For Playing As Undertaker

Undertaker can deal a lot of damage right away, but like other characters, she begins with very little health. Just two hits from enemies in the early areas can defeat her. It’s important to activate Trance quickly to improve her dodging ability and increase her defense.
This character won’t be very durable as you level up, but the Trance ability will help you survive a few attacks from tougher opponents.
Remember that this character’s skills and ultimate ability recharge rapidly. You should be using them constantly, particularly if you have items that boost your attack power or healing after using skills. Don’t save the Loathsome Hex just for bosses – it’s very useful against groups of normal enemies too.
You can also use your UA to heal fallen allies faster!
When playing with friends and using voice chat, ask them to tell you when their special abilities are charged. This lets you quickly follow up with your own powerful attack multiple times. Just make sure you don’t use any slow-starting abilities first, or you’ll waste valuable time that could be used with your character’s passive ability.

By the way, while certain spells can be helpful – particularly those with Holy effects – I suggest prioritizing melee weapons. They’ll be your primary source of strength.
