How To Keep Both Sons Alive During The Killing Field In Oblivion Remastered

Oblivion” and its remaster, where you are required to safeguard not one but two non-player characters (NPCs) amidst a massive swarm of goblins in the Killing Field.

The prize you earn is influenced by the number of Non-Player Characters (NPCs) you successfully maintain alive. Here’s an exciting twist: ensuring that both characters survive will net you an exceptional reward! Thankfully, there are several strategies at your disposal to increase their chances of survival.

How To Start The Killing Field

Begin your journey at The Killing Field by traveling westward from the Imperial City towards Chorrol. Once there, locate the East side of the South Gate, where you’ll find an inn known as the Grey Mare. Go inside and engage in conversation with Valus Odiil, who will be vocal about his lost sons.

As a gamer, I chose the ‘Sons’ option to hear about my two lads, Rallus and Antus. They’ve taken it upon themselves to safeguard our family farm because they’ve run off to defend it. Opting for ‘Creatures’, I learned that some monstrous beasts have been emerging from the woods, attacking our humble abode. Now, these boys have decided to confront the situation head-on without waiting for further instructions.

If you decide to aid Valus with his sons, he promises to guide you to Weynon Priory, the place where they were meant to reunite.

How To Protect The Sons

Upon reaching Winon Priory, you’ll come across both Rallus and Antus positioned on the main road right before the structures. Engage in conversation with Rallus, offer your assistance, and join them in getting rid of the pesky creatures.

As a gamer, I didn’t just stroll with my brothers to their farm aimlessly to advance their quest. Instead, I paid close attention to every detail, knowing that the goblins were lurking nearby. If I had rushed through, I might have endangered those two innocent lives unnecessarily.

In about three minutes on foot, you’ll get to the farm. Shortly after that, around thirty seconds later to be precise, the initial group of goblins is expected to attack.

The goblins come in two waves:

  • First wave: six goblins, including a single armored goblin.
  • Second wave: five goblins, including a pair of armored goblins.

After approximately 30 seconds, the second onslaught follows, so it’s crucial to swiftly deal with the initial attack in order to ensure the boys’ survival.

In much the same way as summoning auxiliary forces often diverts foes in a battle, conjuring a skeleton, Atronach, or any supportive creature helps distract enemies from your intended defendees.

We suggest you position yourself with a protective barrier, strategically placed between the biggest horde of goblins and the NPC who’s been absorbing the most damage.

To finish the quest, you must defeat a certain number of goblins from their pack, around eight or nine out of eleven, in order to keep the boys alive. Make sure to safeguard them throughout this battle to avoid any unfortunate accidents resulting in their deaths. This will maximize your chances of receiving the best possible reward.

It’s recommended to save the game before the fight so you can reload if one of the sons dies.

What Do You Get For Completing The Killing Field

Your compensation hinges on the fate of Rallus and Antus. To claim your reward, go to The Grey Mare in Chorrol and inform their father, Valus, about the outcome of the battle. Should it be nighttime, you can locate Valus within his residence on the western side of town.

  • If both sons die, Valus is distraught and can’t give you any reward, as the gold he stored away needs to go to the funeral costs.
  • If one son dies (it doesn’t matter which), Valus gives you 150 Gold for saving him, but the rest of his reward goes to funeral costs for the remaining child.
  • If both sons survive, you’ll receive the Chillrend short sword. It deals Frost damage on hit, as well as afflicts enemies with a weakness to Frost for 20 seconds.

The Chillrend weapon proves to be quite valuable in the initial stages of the game, although there’s no reward for keeping your two sons alive. If you decide to part ways with it later on, it’s certainly worth a substantial amount.
