How To Get A Giant Feather In Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon

Upon reaching the Horns of the South Keep in “Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon“, you’ll encounter numerous men who serve as Keepers – figures like the leader Fearghas, the blacksmith, the healer, and several more. Among them, there’s a unique individual named Gwylan, who harbors an unusual fascination or preoccupation.

Born into a family of fishermen, Gwylan developed a deep dislike for seagulls that follows him wherever he goes. Unfortunately, this disdain hasn’t lessened for him, as he now finds himself stationed in a coastal keep, which attracts these birds in large numbers. If you don’t mind his occasional chatter about seagulls, he has a small task related to them for you.

How To Make The Seaguller’s Mask

As a devoted follower, I found myself embarking on an intriguing subplot that originated from Keeper Gwylan within the enigmatic Horns of the Shadow Keep. This side mission sparked off a captivating series of tasks I undertook for him, delving deeper into the mysteries of his world.

Apart from crossing this bridge, you could additionally meet Eogan the gardener and take on a new side quest called “Pumpkin Peril” from him as well.

He’s located at the rear of the keep, up a hill, where you’ll spot stairs encircling a close-by tower. Continue onto a bridge that leads to another tower – that’s where you’ll find him. Have a chat with him, and he’ll share his problem with seagulls and ask for your help in finding something to scare them away.

Head towards the main entrance of the keep, climb the stairs leading to the central building, and find the door labeled “Captain’s Quarters”. Inside this area, you’ll discover the keep’s museum. Locate Rhydderic in the back room; he will provide information about the Seaguller’s Mask.

If you haven’t learned how to create Leather items yet, you can acquire the recipe by buying it from Margh at the Hunter’s Camp for 300 Gold.

As a fan, I’d suggest heading over to Osbryht’s blacksmithing area. There, you’ll find the grindstone behind him that we need. With the recipe for a Seaguller’s Mask in hand, I can tell you it requires two leathers and two feathers to craft. Let’s get started!

  • Leather can be crafted at a Grindstone from almost any type of animal pelt, such as Deer or Wolf, both of which can be found in the Horns of the South in areas such as the camp overlooking the beach you washed up on, the forest north of the keep, and the path leading to the Shrine Of A Forgotten God. It can also be bought from Osbryht’s shop for 30 gold per piece.
  • Feathers can be found on the bodies of human enemies wielding bows, such as those in the Flooded Mines on the southern shore of the Horns Of The South, at The Gallows, or those at the Abandoned Village.

Return the Seaguller’s Mask to Gwylan on the bridge; after he dons it, you’ll earn some EXP and receive the Giant Feather as a reward, which boosts your maximum carrying capacity permanently by five. You can then chat with him again to initiate the next quest in the series, Eternal War.

How To Craft And Place The Seagull Traps

In the side mission called “Eternal War,” Gwylan requests that you create and set up some bird traps at present time, since he is still dealing with troublesome seagulls.

Return to the shop by Osbryht, which is where the grindstone is located, and you’ll gain access to a second recipe associated with seagulls: the Bird Trap. In total, you’ll need to create 4 of these traps. To construct one trap, you will require 1 Fish Fillet, 2 Wood pieces, and 1 Bone.

Material Amount Needed How To Find
Fish Fillet 1 Can be looted from crates, sacks, and barrels anywhere, especially those near the sea.
Wood 2 Can be looted from crates and barrels, obtained by chopping wood at Chopping Spots, such as the one inside the keep near the large tree, or when identifying items found on enemies killed during the Wyrdnight. Can also be purchased from
Bone 1 Dropped by any type of skeletal Undead enemy, and tons of them can be found in the Forgotten Cemetery north of the Horns Of The South Keep.

All Seagull Trap Locations

Each of the four traps has its own specific location for placement, and they are strategically scattered throughout the entire fortress. As you draw near the correct position, you will receive a prompt to “Place a Trap”.

  • The first trap is placed under the stairs of the scaffolding on the far west side of the keep. It can be reached by climbing the staircase up to the bridge where Gwylan is, crossing over the wooden bridge next to him to the other side, then going beneath the staircase on the platform you end up on.
  • The second trap is placed against a broken wall south of the keep’s lighthouse. It can be reached by following the same path to the first trap, then going up the stairs and across the wooden bridge to the broken section of cliff where the lighthouse is. Go down the stairs and through the ruined doorway, and the trap can be placed on the left side of the wall.
  • The third trap is placed on a small section of wall on a section of tower above the entrance, and it can be reached by taking the staircase around the large tree near the blacksmith, going up and around across the scaffolding, and up the stairs to the tower. Go through it and up to the top of the stone stairs, then turn left and go around the corner to the small wall section where the trap can go.
  • The fourth and final trap is placed on the edge of a window of the northernmost tower, and it can be reached by going up to the bridge where Gwylan is standing, and following the path around until you reach a tower with a large drop outside the window and an overturned table.

Inside the towers, you’ll come across various edibles and crafting materials hidden in the crates and barrels, and these items are not classified as theft.

Once all the traps are set in place, make your way back to Gwylan for another chat. This time, you’ll be granted some experience points and 200 gold as a reward, and you’ll advance to the second phase of the Eternal War.

Having just one perception increases your chances of success by 25%, but having at least four perceptions ensures that the action will definitely be successful.

Make your way back to the central hall and chat with Fearghas regarding Gwylan. In this conversation with Fearghus, there will be an opportunity for you to mention that Gwylan has worsened. You’ll need to succeed in a Perception test during this exchange.

  • If you lose the Perception check, it will end that section of Eternal War. You get 100 EXP for completing it, and Gwylan will still be on the wall.
  • If you pass the Perception check, you’ll get a slightly different response and an additional 50 EXP for passing the check on top of the base 100 for the quest. Now, Gwylan will be stationed inside the Barracks instead.
