How To Defeat Aratra In The First Berserker: Khazan

In the game The First Berserker: Khazan, each boss encounter presents its own distinct challenges that can vary from extremely difficult to downright chaotic, making it necessary to adapt your strategy if you hope to survive. Aratra is one such battle, as it requires careful consideration of multiple gimmicks to prevent being overpowered by a giant spider.

Luckily, after mastering these obstacles, this experience becomes quite manageable and straightforward, almost as if you’re strolling through a park compared to other encounters. While it will remain challenging, you won’t feel like you’re facing an impossible task anymore!

Aratra Overview

In The First Berserker: Khazan, Aratra represents the fifth formidable adversary you’ll face. This opponent is loaded with numerous unexpected challenges and maneuvers that can significantly complicate your journey if not properly anticipated. To add to the challenge, the initial tricky situation isn’t even within the boss battle itself.

To effectively hinder Spiders and Aratra during your encounter, you should locate and set fire to three explosive barrels hidden within the Scoffa Cave. This action will trigger a cascade of debris and rubble that will crush the spider nests, thereby sealing off the cave entrances leading to the boss arena. Consequently, this strategy prevents any random Spiders from appearing during the battle, as well as restricting Aratra’s potential reappearance spots after retreating!

How To Defeat Aratra

Following your pre-battle strategy by eliminating all three Spider Web Hives allows for a smoother confrontation with Aratra, as fewer spiders disrupt the ensuing battle. The encounter consists of two stages and an additional trick that simplifies things once understood. Although challenging initially, this fight becomes one of the less daunting ones, becoming more manageable after getting accustomed to it!

Aratra: Stab Attack

At the start of the encounter, the Aratra is apt to initiate with a swift and powerful thrust from its front leg that reaches out ahead of itself. Make sure to react quickly when you notice it drawing back its leg, so you can shield yourself at the moment it lunges forward. This will give you an opportunity to cast Reflection!

In this version, I’ve tried to make the text more engaging and easier to understand by using natural language and breaking down the actions into simpler steps for the reader.

Aratra: Leaping Double Stab

Afterward, it’s apparent that Aratra is about to execute a Leaping Double Stab. This move involves using both of its front legs to deliver a fierce thrust, causing significant damage. You can anticipate this move as Aratra first takes a step back, crouching low with bent legs and then suddenly springing forward.

Prepare to shield yourself instantly as the Spider jumps at you, expertly counter its attack with a precise parry, leaving you free to follow up with a couple of offensives!

Aratra: Rapid Stabs

In quick succession, Aratra delivers a series of swift kicks, which you must dodge or risk becoming fatigued or taking heavy damage. These attacks resemble the initial strike but the speed may prove challenging to adjust to.

Initially counter the attack, and when you notice the leg lowering again, understand that the other two are about to act in sync. This gives you an opportunity to handle them similarly. If the leg doesn’t lower post-attack, it has likely performed a single strike and will be engaging in another action afterward!

Aratra: Scoop And Slap

As a gamer, I’m bracing myself for the Aratra’s next move – the ‘Scoop and Slap’. It’ll stretch its front leg out in front of me, then swing it back and pull itself towards me, trying to reel me in. If I’m not careful, it’ll follow up with a powerful forward fling of that same leg, slapping me away and dealing some serious harm if both attacks connect. Better keep my guard up!

As soon as the Aratra positions its leg behind me, instantly guard to counter its Reflect move. Then, swiftly guard once more after it pulls me in, because it will swipe me aside. Here, I’ll find it challenging to attack much, so my best bet is to focus on timely Reflects for both actions!

Aratra: Stabbing Barrage

Afterward, Aratra will execute its rapid thrust sequence, consisting of five consecutive attacks. The initial four attacks will be executed using one of its legs, with the final one being a double-leg strike. Attempt to counter the first four, as their timing will resemble the Rabid Stabs attack from before.

The fifth assault will closely resemble the Leaping Double Stab move, as Aratra will first arch its back on its hind legs before charging forward with a powerful double-stab using its front limbs. As soon as you notice it charging, dodge to Deflect it, which will momentarily stun the Spider, giving you an opportunity to launch a series of attacks against it!

Aratra: Burst Attack

As a gamer, one of Aratra’s strongest moves is its Burst Attack. To retaliate effectively, you need to counter this by landing a timely Counterattack. This will give you the opportunity to follow up with multiple attacks of your own, as Aratra will be momentarily stunned. To execute this, press L1+Circle (for PlayStation) or LB+B (for Xbox) right before the attack connects, dealing a huge amount of damage to Aratra and stunning it!

Aratra: One Leg Down

After giving the Aratra a tough fight for some time, it would be beneficial to strategically cut off one of its front legs earlier in the battle, making it less formidable. This will not only weaken the creature but also hasten the overall confrontation significantly if targeted from the beginning.

Aratra: Venom

Removing one of its legs will cause Aratra to cover the remaining leg in a thick layer of venom, making its subsequent attacks even more hazardous than normal. However, it will also forfeit some of its stronger attacks, which could benefit you. Yet, this action will additionally equip it with new attacks that may be difficult to counteract!

Aratra: Venom Leaping Slam

In the heat of our battle, Aratra is about to unleash its latest move – the Leaping Slam. This isn’t just any ordinary attack; it involves a mighty leap into the sky, followed by a crushing landing right on top of me! The ground shakes significantly as it covers quite a distance, and the shockwave it generates can be hard to dodge. Quite an intimidating sight, I must say!

Await Aratra’s jump to reach its peak, then be prepared to act once the big Spider appears to be falling towards the ground. You can simply defend yourself at this point, but keep in mind it might drain a significant portion of your Stamina Bar. Once it lands, if you’re nearby, you’ll have an opportunity to deliver a few blows of your own!

Aratra: Venom Bite

In this particular state, Aratra often executes a swift double bite known as its Venom Bite. Instead of saying it performs two rapid bites, imagine the Spider darting towards you, drawing back its body, and then quickly lunging forward, delivering two consecutive bites. When you notice it retreating its body, prepare yourself to defend as soon as it charges forward, followed by another defense to Reflect both bites. This will give you an opportunity to retaliate with one or two attacks!

Aratra: Venom Grab

Starting now, it seems like it’s about to unleash its move called the Venom Grab. In doing so, it lunges ahead, extending one leg outward. As it does this, its mouth emits a bright green glow. If you get hit by this attack, Aratra will seize you, immobilize you, and inflict severe damage upon you. Additionally, this action will significantly boost your Venom Meter.

As it starts moving towards you aggressively, hold your ground and wait for it to retreat slightly before it lunges again. When it charges forward, swiftly step aside to the left or right of its mouth to dodge getting grabbed. If you’re not precise with your movements, you risk being caught. And remember, attempting to outrun it is usually futile. After successfully dodging its grasp, you can then deliver multiple attacks against it!

Aratra: Venom Webs

Regularly, Aratra will prepare to gather some energy and subsequently unleash a broad spread of Venom Webs across a considerable area in front of itself. When you notice it starting to accumulate energy, just retreat from the area immediately, wait for it to discharge its webs, and then be prepared for its next attack!

Aratra: Venom Ball

After some time, Aratra will once more cover its leg with Venom, but this time it will launch a Venom Blast towards you. Keep an eye on this Venom Blast, as it approaches, move either left or right to completely dodge it. This way, you can avoid getting hurt by the blast and also prevent the accumulation of Venom!

Aratra: Escaping

Push Aratra further, and it’ll likely try to flee from the arena. When it starts scaling the wall, hurl a Javelin at its rear. At times, this will knock it off balance, giving you the chance for multiple strikes before it scampers away again!

Aratra – Second Phase: Appendage Regeneration

Now, we move onto the next stage of the encounter, where things become a bit trickier. A creature named Aratra will emerge from one of the tunnels positioned high up in the arena. Incredibly, it will heal and regenerate the leg you severed during the initial phase before jumping back down into the fray!

Aratra – Second Phase: Venom Claws

At the conclusion of the initial stage, Aratra is likely to cover not just one, but both of its front paws with Venom. This could pose a problem because it means that during the upcoming part of the encounter, Aratra will have all its moves at its disposal. Therefore, keep a close eye out for this development!

Aratra – Second Phase: Venom Stabs

Using a more natural and easier-to-understand phrasing: The creature will execute a series of Venom-infused stabs. This attack sequence initiates with a forceful jab from its right leg, followed by three rapid-fire jabs from its left leg. It’s crucial that you deflect these attacks, as accumulating Venom or exhausting yourself at this stage in the fight could be detrimental.

After the initial strike, pause for a moment before mirroring the next one. Then, swiftly respond to the following two attacks since they’ll be delivered much more rapidly. However, try to land only a few additional strikes afterwards; avoid getting overzealous!

Aratra – Second Phase: Venom Burst Attack

Next up, Aratra is about to execute another Burst Attack, but this time with a twist. Although the animation looks familiar, it’s significantly faster, so be on the lookout and ready to Counterattack as soon as you spot it moving forward. A successful Counterattack will inflict heavy damage and momentarily stun Aratra, giving you an opportunity to launch a series of rapid-fire attacks!

Aratra – Second Phase: Cutting Off Both Legs

Keep battling Aratra until you manage to sever one of its legs. Since it will be momentarily stunned, immediately concentrate on the remaining leg and persist in attacking it. After a series of strikes, aim to chop that off too, rendering it incapable of fleeing the arena or carrying out any of its irritating actions!

Aratra – Second Phase: No Claws, Exhausted

With both its legs severed, Atrota is nearly Out-of-Strength, so keep launching assaults on it until its Energy Meter runs out. From this point, you can proceed to pummel it, chipping away large pieces of its health. Now, you’re in control, and victory is within reach!

Aratra – Second Phase: No Claws, Bite

Because Aratra no longer possesses claws to regenerate and can’t escape, it has limited offensive options at its disposal, one of which is its Bite. Handle it as you did before, then ready yourself for the following attack. Avoid retaliating immediately afterwards, as it recovers rather swiftly!

Aratra – Second Phase: No Claws, Venom Grab

Another common move that Aratra can execute without using its front legs is its Venom Grab. This involves it rushing towards you with its bright green maw open wide. The process is the same as before, but keep in mind that you should be ready to counterattack straight after.

As soon as you avoid being grabbed, quickly scramble to hide behind Aratra and start attacking the sores on its rear end. Continue the assault until some of these sores burst, inflicting a significant amount of damage. This is the best way to deal damage during this stage of the encounter!

Aratra – Second Phase: No Claws, Leaping Slam

In conclusion, its final move is called Leaping Slam, something you’ve come across multiple times by now. However, this is its only remaining attack once you manage to sever both its legs. As it jumps into the air, be patient and wait until it’s about to land, then defend yourself to Reflect the attack. This gives you an opportunity to counterattack with a few moves of your own.

From this point, Aratra is likely to keep using the same three attacks until it is defeated. To prevent it from escaping again and continuing its attack repertoire, consider severing both its legs immediately if possible!
