Despair can be one of the most challenging conditions to manage due to its immediate, debilitating impact. It must be addressed in specific locations, such as the mining tunnel beyond the Snowy Passage, the caves in the Avian Marsh, and the pavilions within Zhenwu Temple.

For example, when facing two Monks armed with Lanterns, Despair can escalate remarkably fast within a few seconds, resulting in an immediate defeat. It’s crucial to eliminate this negative effect promptly, even during active combat with your adversary.

Best armors for Despair resistance

Of all the armors in the game (excluding those from the Deluxe Edition and pre-orders), we believe that the Palace Maid armor set provides the strongest defense against the Despair status. Wearing all four pieces will give you a Despair resistance of 238, reducing its accumulation noticeably.

Instead, you might find that the maid’s outfit from the Palace drops as loot from the initial boss encounter in Tang Palace, a place you visit relatively early in the campaign. It is highly likely that you will have this item in your possession by the time you venture into zones inhabited by despair-inducing foes.

Items that can cure Despair

There are also a few items that can help cure Despair in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.

  • Fixed Origin Pill – Boosts all status effect resistances temporarily.
  • Mind Lotus Seed – Alleviates Despair buildup.

From my personal experience, apart from scavenging for these items in the game world, you can also buy them from Wu Gang or the Invoke section of the menu. Ensure you always have some on hand, as they are crucial when dealing with objects or enemies that inflict afflictions. This way, your character can avoid an untimely demise.
