In the game ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’, the initial crucial choice you make is selecting a weapon, yet it’s essential to note that no single weapon fits every gaming approach or scenario. Consequently, there are multiple factors that could motivate you to alter or swap your main and secondary weapons.
One of the main attractions of Monster Hunter Wilds and the entire Monster Hunter franchise is that each weapon offers a distinct gameplay style, making it enticing to try them all. For the first time in the series, Wilds allows you to change weapons while out in the field, not just back at base.
How to change your weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds

After finishing Chapter 1-1: Desert Trotters and gaining access to the Base Camp, you’ll initially be able to swap your weapon only with Gemma at the Smithy. However, once you’ve chatted with your Guildmates and participated in the meeting at the Command tent, your personal Tent will become accessible, allowing you to change weapons there as well.
In Monster Hunter Worlds, to switch your weapons, head over to the Smithy or your Tent in the Base Camp. From there, choose the ‘Change Equipment’ option on the menu that appears. The following screen will display your primary and secondary weapon options, as well as armor parts and a talisman, if you have unlocked those slots.
When you’ve got a main and backup weapon ready, it would be useful to learn how to quickly switch between them as needed.
How to switch to your secondary weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds

Following the defeat of Quematrice in Chapter 1:2, Village of Whispering Winds, Y’sai rewards you with a Secret Artifact called the Seikret. Subsequently, Gemma crafts a new saddle for this artifact, including a compartment to carry an extra weapon. Now, you are able to interchange between your main and backup weapons, as long as the Seikret remains in proximity.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, switching to your secondary weapon can be done by pressing right on the D-pad. However, if you’re already on your Seikret, you can simply switch weapons from the holster on your saddle. If you’re not mounted, you need to call your Seikret first with a whistle, then change weapons as you mount it. Unfortunately, at this point in the game, there is no option to switch weapons without also mounting your Seikret, which can feel a bit inconvenient, but that’s the current setup.
With your newfound ability to alter weapons and swiftly switch between them, feel free to dabble in assorted blends of the 14 weapon options available in ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’, so you can determine which strategies suit you most effectively.
