How to Beat VIPER Boss in The First Berserker: Khazan

In the main mission called “Forgotten Temple” within the game “The First Berserker: Khazan“, Viper is the final foe you encounter.

Up until now, we’ve avoided calling the game easy, but Viper is significantly tougher than the challenges that came before him. This dragonkin uses a double-edged spear, enabling him to perform a wide range of complex and cunning attacks. To add to the challenge, he often catches players off guard with his unpredictable attack rhythm!

In this manual, we’ll provide helpful advice and suggestions on how to counteract Viper’s deadliest moves, enabling you to defeat him effectively.

How to Beat Viper in The First Berserker: Khazan| “Forgotten Temple” Mission Boss

To start off, let me clarify that Viper is the initial boss in The First Berserker: Khazan, who has the unique ability for you to call upon a Spirit of Advocacy. You’ll be able to summon them by employing Circular Lacrima at the luminous spot outside the boss arena. If you find yourself struggling against the boss and just want to conclude things more quickly, these spirits can provide valuable assistance!

If you decide to employ the Spirit of Advocacy, we advise that you activate Veronika’s Ghostly Powers for enhanced damage.

Starting the Fight – Phase 1

To clarify, it’s essential to understand that Viper’s attack patterns are slightly unpredictable, so it’s better to dodge or block after you see him initiate an attack rather than anticipating it. Furthermore, utilizing Brink Guards as frequently as possible can help reduce Viper’s Stamina more swiftly.

At the start of the fight, Viper will do one of two things:

  • Poke Combo – Viper will poke with his weapon twice and then do a sweeping slash attack. The first poke comes out slow, but the second is pretty fast. The sweep is also rather slow. All attacks can be Brink Guarded.
  • Slash and Slam – Viper does a horizontal slash followed by a vertical slamming attack. Both of the attacks are fairly slow and have a good Brink Guard window.

In our game, during the initial phase 1, Viper’s primary moves consist of a couple of swift horizontal swipes and a spinning combo that ends with a slow, horizontal slash. The spinning combo is worth noting because if you’re close to Viper and move to your left, you can usually dodge the twirls. As for the other attacks, I’d advise using Brink Guard as often as you can to minimize damage.

In certain instances, Viper may elevate his weapon overhead and swiftly begin whirling it around. This action generates a powerful vortex that can pull you in and inflict significant damage. To avoid this, make sure to evade and maneuver away from him as soon as you notice the spinning weapon.

Other Notable Phase 1 Attacks

As the battle progresses, Viper will resort to more cunning tactics. One such move is his leaping strike, which you’ll recognize by him jumping back from you. After this leap, he’ll swiftly charge towards you, launching a thrust attack. When you notice him jumping away, prepare yourself to either sidestep or defend. Remember that he can perform only one or two thrust attacks at random each time.

During some instances, Viper might hurl his weapon at you, spinning and causing harm. It’s advisable to evade this attack since blocking it may swiftly drain your Stamina. Additionally, exercise caution after dodging, as Viper could retaliate with a jumping strike!

Occasionally, Viper thrusts the rear end of his spear into the ground, which is often followed by a series of around five distinct attacks. It’s best to keep your distance during this sequence, but if you’re daring enough, try to block the last one with Brink Guard. This series of attacks can be lethal, so it’s essential to stay vigilant.

In this stage, one of his most infamous moves is known as Viper’s Grasp. If he remains stationary and retracts his weapon, it’s best to keep your distance. An additional warning signal is when the spear tip emits a glow. He’ll follow up with a swift, unavoidable thrust that captures Khazan, causing significant damage.

Starting Phase 2

During stage two, Viper significantly alters his attack style. Now, he wields a massive right hand that delivers slow but powerful punches, and simultaneously carries a dagger in his left hand for quick, agile slices.

In this stage, aim to Parry the dagger strikes and Evade the punch attacks. You’ll find a considerable gap following many successful evasions of punches. Feel free to Parry the punch attacks too, but beware as they may drain your Stamina and expose you if not handled with care!

During this stage, Viper’s primary tactic involves picking up stones from the ground and hurling them at Khazan. So, if you notice him striking the ground with his hand, be prepared to evade the incoming stone attack.

Typically, Viper’s assaults become more patterned in this stage, which surprisingly makes it simpler to manage compared to his unpredictable timing in phase 1!

Shrouded in Darkness – Phase 2

During phase 2, Viper’s unique ability activates when either his stamina runs out or his health drops below 50%. This results in him shouting and creating a whirlwind of swift cuts, inflicting heavy damage. It’s best to keep your distance from him to avoid this dangerous whirlwind.

As the arena plunges into darkness, I, the gamer, find myself creeping along the arena’s edge, my heart pounding. I can’t make out Viper clearly in this pitch-black environment, but I spot a faint glow following him, like a trail of glowing eyes. Now, it’s a game of cat and mouse, with me tracking the eerie luminescence to avoid his sneak attacks.

As a thrilled spectator, I’d warn you: His sudden charges are signaled by a bolt of lightning, so stay alert for that. When you spot the bolts, your best bet is either to Brink Guard or Dodge! Dodging seems safer, but Brink Guarding might provide a brief chance to deal some damage.

In due course, Viper is set to leap towards the arena’s center, executing a thunderous slam followed by a sweeping slice. Mastering when to block and when to dodge can help you manage these attacks effectively. Regardless of your choice, the shadows will vanish, resuming the battle as normal. The battle won’t persist for long, considering Viper’s health should be depleting at this stage!

Khazan, as his attacks can be deceptive. However, with some practice, you’ll find it straightforward to counter him using the Brink Guard technique!
