How To Beat Adel, Baron Of Night In Elden Ring Nightreign
Following my triumph over the Tricephalos Expedition within Elden Ring: Nightreign, I’ve successfully vanquished the three-headed Gladius. This achievement grants me access to six additional Nightlords, which I can engage in battle at my leisure. Of these new adversaries, the Gaping Jaw is next on my list to confront.
Overcoming them takes you one step nearer to unveiling the ultimate eighth Journey, the Night Aspect, and thereby reaching Nightreign’s conclusion. They are relatively straightforward battles compared to Gladius, though they can prove challenging if you find yourself taken aback and unready. However, with appropriate weapons, understanding their vulnerabilities, and a powerful group of Nightfarers, you’ll find the encounter significantly less taxing.
Adel’s Strengths And Weaknesses
Adel serves as a spiritual equivalent to the Gaping Dragon, but be prepared for a tougher battle due to its increased speed and wide-ranging attacks. However, if you manage to gather poisonous weapons or possess some poison-infused Relics, subduing it should be relatively straightforward.
Scarlet Rot doesn’t have any unique effects against Adel like poison does.
Strengths
- Lightning
Weaknesses
- Poison
- Frostbite
- Sleep
To locate weapons that have Adel’s vulnerabilities, search the map for places tagged with the corresponding icon. Poison is particularly effective since it will make Gladius sick and cause it to expel the toxins, providing a short opportunity for you to intensify your attacks. However, be careful not to step into the pool of vomit as it will also poison you.
Recommended Characters

To deal maximum Poison damage during the fight, it’s wise to include Nightfarers in your party, who excel at causing status effects, and also have a character with ranged abilities to keep Adel under pressure from a safe distance. This way, you can avoid getting caught up in its grab attack or roar.
It’s beneficial to have a character capable of attacking from afar, or even acquire a bow for yourself, as it allows you to resuscitate your teammates remotely.
Hey there! Let me tell you, I’m really digging the synergy of Executor, Wylder, and Ironeye in our team. Executor’s Arcane stat is sky-high, making them a pro at causing status effects. Ironeye, whether using the right bow or relying on Relics that poison his starting weapon, keeps piling on the effect while Executor and Wylder dodge incoming attacks. And Wylder? Well, he’s a versatile choice because he can swiftly transition between ranged and close-combat due to his grapple abilities.
To successfully play the more fragile characters such as Recluse and Revenant against Adel, it’s crucial to understand its moveset due to the significant harm it causes. However, their extended range, in conjunction with appropriate spells, makes them exceptionally beneficial. If you are confident in evading its attacks, then these characters can be good choices for Nightfarers.
Adel’s Moveset

Similar to many Nightlords, Adel undergoes two distinct phases. The initial phase is relatively calm, lacking the explosive area of effect abilities that characterize the latter part of the battle. However, it’s crucial to remain vigilant during this phase, as his grab attack can ensnare multiple Nightfarers at once. If you fail to dodge in time, you risk taking almost certain Bleed damage and having Adel’s other attacks become significantly stronger for the next 30 seconds.
Phase 1
Attack Description Counter Grab Attack Adel drags its head along the ground, with purple lightning streaks firing off either side, before lunging at a target to grab. Once inside its maw, they’ll be chomped, with each bite inflicting Bleed. Afterwards, Adel gains a damage buff for 30 seconds. Roll in the opposite direction.
If grabbed, teammates can free you by attacking Adel.Roar Adel will roar twice, stunning nearby Nightfarers, before launching two attacks and a grab. The roar itself deals no damage. Once you’re free from it, run away and dodge the incoming grab attack. Phase 2
Attack Description Counter Lightning Stomp Adel will stomp its feet and send streaks of lightning across the arena that will explode after a short delay. You can jump over the slam attacks and even the lightning, despite it shooting up into the air. Dive Attack Adel will launch into the air and crash down jaw-first, unleashing lightning all across the arena. Roll out of the way of the dive, and then jump over the lightning. Roar Adel’s roar attack is amped up in its second phase. After it ends, it’ll launch two grab attacks instead of one, and the second is much faster and thus harder to dodge. Much like in the first phase, run away from Adel while or after it roars, and then dodge the incoming grab attacks.
In its second stage, Adel will activate when it’s reduced to half its health. This phase initiates with a sequence of powerful stomping attacks that set off purple lightning across the battlefield. During this time, it’s advisable to move towards the farthest corners of the arena as these attacks can be quite intense. Characters like Ironeye, who excel at ranged combat, are particularly useful in this encounter since they can keep their distance from Adel while dealing damage.
Status effects are much harder to inflict when Adel enters its second phase.
Tips For Beating Adel

Since Expeditions lists Adel as their second boss, it’s not unexpected that he’s one of the less challenging ones. As long as you can locate poison-infused weapons, maintaining control over him shouldn’t be difficult.
In the arsenal at your disposal, there are numerous Artifacts you can uncover to facilitate combat more smoothly, like those that amplify your damage when targeting poisoned adversaries. If you ever find yourself struggling, remember it’s perfectly fine to take a break and switch to another Nightlord character, allowing you to return with an improved skill set.
While navigating through Limveld, don’t forget to look for enhancements that widen your evasion opportunities. These bonuses will significantly simplify dodging Adel’s grab attack, particularly during the second phase of the battle.
By successfully completing this expedition, you will move a step forward in your quest to confront the Night Aspect. This entity can only be accessed once you have defeated four distinct Nightlords.
