How the Oasis kids were key to getting their warring dads back together...

In pondering the lives of these illustrious offspring, I find myself utterly captivated by their tales, much like a moth to a flame. The Gallaghers and the Appletons, two dynasties intertwined through the bonds of family and music, have lived lives that are nothing short of extraordinary.

The comment made by Gene Gallagher, son of Oasis lead singer Liam, towards his cousin Anais (daughter of Noel), could be seen as hurtful and upsetting to many teenage girls. He tweeted, “You look like your dad with a blonde wig on.”

The jibe came after Anais, then 17, had proudly walked the runway at Tommy Hilfiger’s 2017 show at London Fashion Week.

Gene, 16, firmly reiterated that the individual who selected his cousin as a brand model was “absolutely clueless, someone who might benefit from getting their eyes checked at an optometrist.”

Considering the deep-seated divide between their parents, it’s hardly unexpected that they found themselves at odds with each other.

Since our disagreement back in 2017, I’ve played a significant role in mending fences between Gene and Anais, and more importantly, in encouraging our fathers to put aside their differences and reunite as Oasis once again.

The improvement in their relationship played a significant role in Liam and Noel reconciling, an event that was officially confirmed on Tuesday as the two brothers revealed plans for a series of summer concerts in Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh, London, and Dublin.

A confidant disclosed that Anais and Gene paved the path, demonstrating to their fathers that it was possible for them to put aside their disagreements.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I find myself deeply connected to the timeless melodies of Oasis, a bond that started during my childhood years. Although I was too young to witness their iconic performance together at V Festival in Staffordshire back in 2009, the magic of their music transcends time and space, making me feel like I was there. Regrettably, their infamous fallout at Rock en Seine festival in Paris came a bit later for me, but their legacy remains undiminished.

Anais, aged 24, who is Meg Matthews’ daughter (Noel Gallagher’s first wife), has expressed her deep affection for her father’s music, stating: ‘I genuinely adore Noel Gallagher’s music more than anything else,’ further mentioning that she often plays Oasis and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in her room with high volume.

She vividly recalls being backstage with her father and uncle at Wembley Stadium in 2009, yet it’s not the music that stands out in her memory, rather the lack of Cadbury Buttons in the dressing room. ‘I was quite upset,’ she admitted, ‘as it felt like a major injustice to eight-year-old me.’

In the meantime, Liam’s cousin Gene (son of Nicole Appleton), who particularly loves the Oasis song “Wonderwall,” joined his father during his Definitely, Maybe tour this past summer.

As a devoted fan, I had the pleasure of witnessing Gene’s band, Villanelle, opening for Liam. True to form, Liam put his son through an audition for the opportunity, saying, “Alright, show me what you’ve got. If you’re not up to snuff, you won’t be playing.”

Nevertheless, their shared time has led to numerous meaningful conversations between the father and son. It was mentioned that Liam has witnessed the enthusiasm among the newer generation towards Oasis songs. Remarkably, some of these individuals were not yet born when the band disbanded.

A source revealed: ‘Just lately, Noel and Liam realized for the first time that their children hadn’t witnessed them together in a meaningful way as part of Britain’s most prominent band. They didn’t want to miss the opportunity to demonstrate this to their kids while there was still time.’

It’s clear that Gene and Anais were open about their feelings. They directly informed their fathers that they adore their old tunes and wished for a joint performance from them on stage.

A photo shared on Gene’s Instagram account back in December showed that the old hostility between him and Anais had vanished.

In a jovial mood, Gene stood cheerfully next to his cousin Lennon and older brother (who is the son of Patsy Kensit), along with Manchester City soccer player Ruben Dias. This picture, as friends note, brought immense joy to their fervent Manchester City-loving dads.

The photo was captured during the post-event gathering following Chanel’s yearly Metiers d’Art fashion exhibition, located in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Remarkably, this duo also shared a joint interview and photoshoot in esteemed fashion magazine Vogue, where they openly discussed their affection for their rockstar fathers’ wardrobes.

Over the past few years, Anais and Gene have developed a strong bond. Gene tends to be cautious when it comes to letting others into his circle, as he’s guarded around those who seek proximity to his well-known family. However, Anais shares this same wariness due to her own experiences, which has helped them form a connection.

‘Nowadays, they’ve both grown significantly more mature, allowing them to chuckle at their adolescent disagreements. They keep in frequent contact with each other, and what they find most beneficial is prompting their dads to do the same.’

Initially, Anais studied at Bedales, a liberal private institution located in Hampshire. Subsequently, she enrolled in King Alfred School in Hampstead, north London, which costs around £20,000 annually, for her upper education – the same school her younger relative also attended.

It appears from Gene’s online banter with his cousin that their friendship didn’t develop quickly. However, those who know them well are unsurprised by their friendship as they both exhibit a high level of creativity as they matured.

Anais, who studied at the University of Arts London, is an enthusiastic photographer and has been featured in high-profile campaigns by renowned brands such as Dolce & Gabbana.

In addition to his work, Gene has been a model alongside Rafferty Law (actor Jude Law’s son), Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis (son of actor Daniel Day-Lewis), Maddi Waterhouse (sister of model and musician Suki Waterhouse), and they have all made appearances together. This year, Gene’s indie rock band, Villanelle, is set to embark on its first UK headlining tour.

Even though they are known for their indulgent lifestyles, both Liam and Noel demonstrate a firm parenting style towards their children, a fact that their cousins have taken note of. In contrast to Liam who preferred a neat and organized home, where nothing was left on the floor or allowed to be sticky with slime, Noel was particularly strict with his daughter regarding parties and interactions with boys.

It’s somewhat amusing that despite their numerous disagreements and differences, Liam and Noel seem to have become remarkably alike in their fathering roles, particularly with regards to Anais and Gene.

It appears that friends note that Anais’ bond with Gene has additionally drawn her closer to Liam, a person who wasn’t around during Anais’ early years.

Anais is known to have a fondness for her uncle’s wit, and she was with Liam before his Reading Festival performance on Sunday. Suddenly, two messages appeared on the screen – one reading ‘8am’, and the other ‘August 27th, 2024’. This intriguing news hinted at an upcoming reunion.

Apart from Gene and Lennon, age 24, Liam’s large family also consists of Molly, aged 26, whose mother is the singer Lisa Moorish. Additionally, they have an 11-year-old sister named Gemma who resides in New York with her journalist mother, Liza Ghorbani.

It wasn’t until Gemma’s mother filed a $3 million lawsuit for child support that Liam’s paternity was officially established. His affair and resulting love child led to the dissolution of his six-year marriage with Nicole Appleton in 2014. A judge decided they should divide their £11 million joint fortune equally during their divorce.

Besides Anais, Noel has two sons named Donovan and Sonny. They were born in the years 2007 and 2010, respectively. Their mother, Sara MacDonald, parted ways with Noel last year, and it was reported that she received a divorce settlement worth £20million, along with an £8million property in Hampshire.

It’s not really shocking that the high cost of divorce may have influenced Noel’s choice to join the reunion tour, as it is reportedly set to earn each brother approximately £50 million.

As soon as the announcement about the reunion was made public, Anais was among those who expressed immediate joy. She posted vintage pictures from her father and uncle’s peak years, with a straightforward caption: “Summer 2025.”

Indeed, it will summer of partying for the Oasis offspring – but only if their dads let them.
