Kyle Sandilands has the fight of his life ahead of him, lawyers claim.
Kyle Sandilands’ radio show was cancelled and his $100 million contract ended on Wednesday, marking a significant change for the popular personality.
As a long-time follower of these cases, I’m really concerned to hear that this 54-year-old is facing a costly legal fight. Mia Pantechis, a workplace lawyer from Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, explained to NewsWire that it’s going to be an expensive battle for them.
According to Pantechis, this contract disagreement is likely to be a significant and costly legal battle. The main issues will be determining if Sandilands acted improperly and whether ARN had the legal right to end the contract given the situation.
Sandilands, seeking a large amount of money in damages, will probably claim that ARN broke the contract.
It won’t be easy to prove his claims, Pantechis insisted.
Honestly, I’ve been pouring over every detail, and it all comes down to the contract, I think. Did it, like, specifically say what they were allowed to do on air? Did someone actually give them permission for all of that? That’s what’s going to decide everything, I just know it. It’s all in the fine print, I’m telling you!
A source told news.com.au on Wednesday that Kyle is ‘optimistic’ about his chances in court.
He’s hopeful about the future, but also a bit hurt. He feels he played a key role in developing the station and is taking this situation hard, according to a source.
He believes the contract is legally sound, and if Kyle appears elsewhere, it would allow ARN to state that the agreement has been terminated.
‘Kyle does not feel complete without being on-air.’
Last month, ARN ended Henderson’s $100 million contract after she informed company leaders she could no longer work with Kyle Sandilands. This decision followed Sandilands’ critical on-air remarks, which had upset her significantly.
They also informed Sandilands in writing that his actions on the February 20th show were a serious violation of his contract with Quasar Media, as defined by ARN’s service agreement.
Sandilands was given a 14-day suspension during which he was required to ‘remedy the breach.’
That deadline passed on Tuesday night and ARN revealed Sandilands’ fate on Wednesday morning.
In a surprising announcement to the Daily Mail on Wednesday, the 54-year-old stated he is unhappy with how things turned out with his job at the network.
He also confirmed the matter will now be in the hands of his lawyers.
‘ARN has just announced that they’ve terminated my contract,’ he said.
‘I don’t accept it. My lawyers told them last week this would be invalid. And guess what? It is.’
Sandilands explained what happened: Jackie and he had a disagreement on the air, which wasn’t unusual after working together for 25 years. They’d had similar moments many times before.
‘And ARN took the situation and decided to try and burn the place down.’
Continuing, Sandilands doubled down on a previous claim that he had been ‘muzzled’ by the network.
Honestly, it’s just awful! They fired Jackie, and then they suspended me! Can you believe it? The worst part is, they wouldn’t even let me reach out to her – wouldn’t let me call Jackie or anyone else involved with the show. It’s like they were trying to completely cut me off, and it’s killing me!
What really bothers me is that after they created a situation where the show couldn’t continue, they blamed us and fired us for not resolving it.
