Hollywood Teamsters and other crew unions ratify new contracts

As a seasoned film industry veteran with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction and relief seeing these new deals being ratified between labor unions and the major studios. The Hollywood Basic Crafts, led by Teamsters Local 399, have fought tirelessly to ensure fair wages, improved working conditions, and better benefits for thousands of hardworking crew members.

A group made up of various Hollywood unions for drivers, location managers, animal trainers, electricians, plumbers, and other crew members have collectively approved new three-year contracts with the main film studios.

On Thursday, six distinct teams of artisans from various fields unanimously approved their respective contracts through ratifying votes exceeding 92%. These craftspeople below the line are associated with Hollywood Basic Crafts, a union coalition spearheaded by Teamsters Local 399.

In her statement, Lindsay Dougherty, as chair of Hollywood Basic Crafts and head of Teamsters Local 399, expressed that while we are pleased with the wage boosts, classifications changes, and enhanced work environments we’ve delivered for our members, these advancements will never truly match the worth of their tireless effort, talent, and knowledge.

The recently approved contracts encompass several agreements:

These improvements encompass wage hikes, pension plans, healthcare perks, among other advantages, benefiting approximately 7,600 film and television crew workers.

The Alliance of Film and TV Production, representing studios and streaming platforms, extended its congratulations to Hollywood’s Basic Crafts unions for successfully ratifying their agreements. These contracts include significant new safeguards and some of the biggest wage increases in years.

“According to the AMPTP, the substantial economic advantages, extra safety precautions, improved quality of living conditions, and overall benefits found in these fresh agreements are a testament to the immense worth and daily contributions made by the dedicated union members who contribute to Hollywood’s success.”
