Hit London-set crime drama with “mesmerising” detective gets exciting new-season update and teaser

Mark Gatiss’s London-based detective series, Bookish, has released a short preview of its second season, offering fans a sneak peek at what they can expect from the show’s characters.

Mark Gatiss will return as Gabriel Book in the new mysteries, and he’ll be joined by familiar faces including Polly Walker as Trottie Book, Connor Finch as Jack Blunt, Blake Harrison as Sergeant Morris, Elliot Levey as Inspector Bliss, and Buket Kömür as Nora.

We’ve already gotten a sneak peek at the new characters joining season two. Jason Watkins, known from McDonald and Dodds, and Ruth Codd, who starred in The Midnight Club, will both appear as guest stars.

Louis Watkins will play Harold Sneed, a medium featured in the story. His character is introduced as the investigation delves into the world of spiritualism and Book encounters him.

Okay, so I’m super excited for season two of Bookish! It looks like I’ll be playing Gabriel Book again, and this time the story’s taking me to some really interesting places. Apparently, there’s a murder mystery at a fancy tailor shop near Savile Row, and then I’m off to a cute little German village to stop a Duchess who’s a thief! Sounds like a fun adventure.

I was so excited when Bookish first came out on U&alibi last year! And get this – it did so well, U&alibi even confirmed a second season before the first one had finished airing! They said it was an incredible launch, and actually became their second highest-rated premiere ever, looking at the numbers from the first week.

The show is currently receiving rave reviews, with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. In a review of the first season, the LA Times praised it as both funny and heartwarming, noting it’s a series that’s enjoyable while also being genuinely moving.

The Guardian praised it as a delightful and well-crafted piece of entertainment, noting its careful pacing and addictive quality. They appreciated that it balanced a fresh, unique approach with a comforting familiarity, calling it simply ‘a joy’.

I was reading a review on Digital Spy, and they gave Bookish four stars! They called it one of the best TV surprises of the year, which is high praise. They really loved Mark Gatiss’s character, Gabriel, saying he was fascinating and totally mesmerizing to watch. And that’s saying something, because there are so many detective shows on right now, so for him to stand out is really impressive.

“Bookish” is a unique detective drama set in London in the late 1940s. The show centers around the intelligent and quick-witted Bookish, who works as a consultant with the police. The second season promises even more exciting mysteries and is scheduled to be released this summer.

Bookish season 1 is available now on Sky, Virgin Media and NOW, and season 2 is coming soon.

I’m so excited! The latest issue of Living Legends is out, and it’s a gorgeous, full-color tribute to Sir David Attenborough! It’s 100 pages long and you can grab a copy at newsstands or order it online.
