Hip-hop legend Kurupt, 53, is hospitalized for weeks as he battles mysterious health issues

Hip-hop legend Kurupt has been hospitalized for weeks due to suffering from unknown health issues.

According to TMZ, the 53-year-old rapper, also a member of the group Tha Dogg Pound, is recovering in the hospital as of Tuesday.

However, the reasons behind the performer’s hospitalization several weeks ago remain unclear, as sources haven’t shared any additional information.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Kurupt for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Ricardo Emmanuel Brown, known as Kurupt, was born in Philadelphia and moved to Los Angeles as a teenager.

I first discovered him back in the early 90s, and I’ve been a fan ever since! He really hit the scene when he joined forces with Daz Dillinger to form the hip-hop group Tha Dogg Pound. They were signed to Death Row Records back then, and it’s amazing to see that Snoop Dogg actually owns the label now!

On Monday, Dillinger posted photos with Kurupt on Instagram, asking fans to send well wishes for his friend’s quick recovery.

He shared a message of hope, writing, ‘God said we shall live & not die.’ He also gave a shout-out to his brother, @offical_kurupt.

Everyone is sending their best wishes for a quick recovery to Kurupt! Fans are encouraged to flood his Instagram with get-well messages and show him how much they care.

Dillinger then reflected on fellow music artists that they have ‘lost’ including Nate Dogg.

Hey everyone, just wanted to send some love to Kurupt – he’s family and I’m sending positive vibes his way. Life can be tough, and I want to give a shout-out to LeeLee for always being supportive. Real recognize real – Dogg Pound for life, but always keeping God first. Sending love and respect to everyone!

Fans sent well wishes to Big Kurupt, with one writing, ‘Get well soon, we love you!’ and another calling him ‘the greatest’ and urging him to recover.

I’m sending all my positive vibes to Kurupt Young Gotti! I’ve been seeing so much love and well wishes for him online – the West Coast is definitely showing him huge support, and it’s so heartwarming to see. Let’s all keep him in our thoughts and wish him a speedy recovery!

Another commented, ‘Get well soon @official_kurupt wishing you a speedy recovery salute Gotti!’

Kurupt initially joined Death Row Records in 1992, a label founded the previous year in 1991 by Dre, The D.O.C., Suge Knight, and Dick Griffey.

After 2Pac’s death in 1996 and subsequent issues – including the imprisonment of Suge Knight – the record label filed for bankruptcy in 2006.

And then in February 2022, Snoop Dogg bought Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group.

Tha Dogg Pound was a hip-hop duo that was launched in 1992 and featured both Kurupt and Dillinger.

Since then, they’ve released nine studio albums together, including their most recent, W.A.W.G. (We All We Got), which came out in 2024.

Kurupt would go on to leave Death Row Records in 1996 and focused on creating music solo as well.

In 1998, the rapper released his first solo album, Kuruption!, which reached number eight on the Billboard 200 chart.

The following year, the performer also released his second LP titled Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha (1999).

After that initial explosion, he just kept giving us music! Four more full albums, can you believe it? And honestly, ‘Streetlights’ from 2010? Still hits different. It felt like the perfect goodbye, though I secretly hope it won’t be forever.

Over the years, Kurupt has worked with many well-known artists, including Ty Dolla Sign, DJ Quik, Xzibit, DJ Lethal, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre.

He previously discussed working with Dr. Dre during an episode of Drink Champs back in 2020.

Growing up, I felt driven to prove myself, and Dr. Dre was my main inspiration – I wanted to go all out and really make an impact.

Kulture explained that there’s pressure now because Dr. Dre has high expectations.

He also talked about how their artistic approaches have evolved, noting that they’ve each developed a unique style and way of working over time.

As a longtime fan, I remember when Kurupt and Tha Dogg Pound dropped “What Would You Do” back in ’95 – it was huge! It’s amazing to me that track even earned him a Grammy nomination, though he didn’t win. Still, it’s a testament to his talent and the impact that song had.
