Ever since Daniel Craig stepped down as James Bond, everyone’s been talking about who should be the next 007. Craig’s films, especially Casino Royale and Skyfall, were huge hits with fans, making it a tough role to fill. Now that the part is open and a new movie is in the works, speculation about the next James Bond is running high.
Many talented actors, including Callum Turner and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, have been considered to play James Bond in recent years. Idris Elba, Tom Holland, and Henry Cavill are just a few of the popular names in the mix. Cavill, in particular, has long been a fan favorite, demonstrating his ability to play a spy in films like The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Argylle, and The Ministry of Ungentlemenly Warfare. Interestingly, Cavill may have proposed an idea that could make him the perfect fit for the role, potentially opening the door for him to join the iconic James Bond franchise.
Henry Cavill Knows Where He Fits Into the James Bond Franchise

The next James Bond film, currently known as Bond 26 but likely to gain a better title soon, is in the works. Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, is writing the screenplay, and Denis Villeneuve, who directed Arrival and Dune, is directing. Although no actors have been officially cast yet, many fans hope Henry Cavill will get the role. However, rumors suggest the producers are looking for a younger actor, as Cavill is now 42. Cavill himself believes he may be too old to play Bond, but he has an idea for a different role he’d be perfect for.
In an interview with Heat Magazine, Henry Cavill shared that he’s still interested in appearing in a James Bond film, and specifically expressed his desire to play a Bond villain.
It wasn’t that I refused the part, the timing just wasn’t ideal. Any actor would jump at the chance to play James Bond! However, at my age – 42 – I think I might be a little too old to start a Bond career now. I’d actually be very interested in playing a Bond villain, though. A well-developed villain character would be a really interesting role to take on.
It’s Time for Henry Cavill To Get More Villain Roles

Henry Cavill excels at playing villains because he naturally commands attention and can convey menace with just a look. We saw this when his Superman briefly turned evil in Justice League, as even the heroes were intimidated by his intense stare. Before becoming Superman, he demonstrated his acting range playing the cunning Charles Brandon in the series The Tudors. However, his most memorable villainous performance is arguably in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, where he was a formidable opponent to Tom Cruise and delivered the now-iconic “arm cocking” fight. In 2018, Cavill himself noted that this Mission: Impossible role was ideal training for potentially playing James Bond, stating:
Playing James Bond would be a blast. It’s a classic British character, and the role is just really cool. Having done the ‘Mission: Impossible’ films, I’m now comfortable with doing practical stunts, and I’d love to bring that experience to a Bond movie. It’s not that they didn’t do real stunts before, but I feel I could really build on that now.
Henry Cavill often plays charming and heroic characters, like Superman, Geralt of Rivia, and Sherlock Holmes, and his likable personality helps him succeed in these roles. However, he’s also shown he can convincingly play villains, making a James Bond villain role a great fit. He could portray a truly cunning and formidable opponent for Bond, or even take on a similar iconic role to Jaws. While he may not be in line to be James Bond, Cavill might have suggested an ideal role for himself within the franchise, and those in charge should definitely consider it.
