The first reviews for the third season of HBO’s show are in, and the Rotten Tomatoes score is a series low. While it’s a record, it’s not a positive one.
Currently, Season 3 of Euphoria has a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which means it’s considered “rotten” – a score of 60% or higher is needed to be considered “fresh.” While more positive reviews could improve the score, it would be difficult for Season 3 to avoid being the lowest-rated season so far. The first and second seasons received much higher approval ratings, with 80% and 78% respectively.
Critic Graeme Guttmann believes the show’s shift away from a high school environment has highlighted existing issues with the characters, implying that creator Sam Levinson may not have fully developed them. He suggests this change has ultimately damaged the series.
In a recent review, Taylor Gates observed that Euphoria hasn’t really evolved since its beginning. She noted that the characters haven’t grown much, and the show continues to have the same good qualities and flaws as its first two seasons.
Despite mixed reactions from critics, Season 3 of the show might be better received by viewers. We won’t know for sure until it premieres on April 12th, as audience scores aren’t available yet. The first two seasons were popular with viewers, earning scores of 84% and 80% – higher than the critics’ ratings. Hopefully, Season 3 will follow suit and offer a more positive reception to the show’s return.
The popular HBO series Euphoria may be coming to an end, and recent developments suggest it could finish on a disappointing note. Rumors have circulated that Season 3 will be the final one, and Zendaya has now indicated this is probably true. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, she confirmed the possibility when asked about the show’s future, simply stating, “I think so, yeah.”
Perhaps expectations for the new season were overly optimistic, considering how long fans had waited for the show to come back. It had been over four years since the Season 2 finale in February 2022, and the series originally premiered in 2019.
The HBO series Euphoria features a talented cast including Zendaya, Maude Apatow, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Colman Domingo, Hunter Schafer, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Toby Wallace, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
Euphoria is streaming on HBO Max with Season 3 set to premiere on Apr. 12, 2026.
