HBO Max is launching a new drama series starring Joshua Jackson. The show, titled How to Survive Without Me, will reunite him with cast members from Dawson’s Creek after almost 30 years.
According to reports, Joshua Jackson will lead the cast of How to Survive Without Me, a new project from Greg Berlanti, who previously worked on Dawson’s Creek. Berlanti was a producer and writer for the popular teen drama from 1999 to 2002, contributing to nine episodes.
The upcoming series How to Survive Without Me will feature Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran, who also developed the show alongside Warner Bros. Television. Berlanti and Doran are writing the pilot episode, based on a story they created with Robbie Rogers, which shares the same title.
The new show takes place after the death of Beverly, the family’s mother. The De Angeles family is struggling to adjust to life without her guidance, but Beverly has surprisingly found a way to continue influencing them, even from beyond the grave.
The message concludes by saying that if the family wants to truly honor Beverly’s legacy, they need to prioritize staying close and supporting each other through whatever difficulties the future holds.
Jackson will star as Cooper in How to Survive Without Me. He plays a chef in Los Angeles launching an exclusive dining club, featuring recipes passed down from his mother. The character is described as outwardly confident and charming, but inwardly troubled, hiding a secret that could jeopardize his friendships and career, which he built to honor his mother. Romano will play the role of the family’s father.
Berlanti Wrote Several Iconic Dawson’s Creek Episodes
Greg Berlanti is famous for writing a memorable episode of Dawson’s Creek called “…That Is the Question” in 1999. This Season 2 episode featured Jack McPhee (played by Kerr Smith) coming out as gay. Berlanti also co-wrote “True Love” in Season 3, an episode notable for including the first-ever kiss between two men on network television – a kiss between Jack and Ethan (Adam Kaufman).
At the 2024 Emmys, Jackson presented Greg Berlanti with the Governor’s Award, and the two had previously collaborated on a project.
Max Originals is excited to announce that Joshua has joined the cast of How to Survive Without Me, alongside Ray Romano. According to Sarah Aubrey, Head of Max Original Programming, it’s wonderful to see Joshua working again with the show’s creator, Greg Berlanti, on this personal story about family.
