Next week, acclaimed director, artist, and creator of the EDGLRD collective, Harmony Korine, will launch his first major U.S. museum exhibition at the ICA Miami. The show will feature more than 50 of his works, covering everything from his early pieces to his most recent projects and showcasing the entirety of his career.

The title, Perfect Nonsense, captures the playfully rebellious and sometimes biting tone that has always been part of Korine’s work. The exhibition itself is organized around key themes, showcasing his ongoing fascination with stories from the fringes of society, critiques of social norms, the pursuit of pleasure, the world of celebrities, what feels real versus fake, and the unique experiences of being a teenager in America.

The exhibition begins in 1997 with early works – collages, paintings, and handwritten notes – created after the film Kids (1995). The ideas and images from this period would later develop into more complex explorations of aggression and underground culture, evident in his 2009 black comedy Trash Humpers and the “Shadow Fux” paintings he made with artist Rita Ackerman, both of which are featured in the show.

The exhibit also features “Twitchy” paintings, which combine blurry iPhone photos with classic painting methods to create ethereal figures. A section called “Florida Room” explores how the art scene in Miami, where the artist now lives, differs from the darker, more traditional art of the American South. Throughout the show, you’ll also find extra photos, self-published booklets, and drawings.

Korine’s experimental film, Aggro Dr1ft, featuring Travis Scott, concludes the exhibition and hints at his growing interest in video games and online worlds.

The exhibition Perfect Nonsense will be displayed at ICA Miami from April 15th to October 4th. You can find more details on the ICA Miami website.
