Harlan Coben star’s “gripping” British BBC thriller teases dark secrets as filming begins

Cush Jumbo, known for her role in the BBC series Harlan Coben, is joining the cast of Wahala, a new British thriller written by Theresa Ikoko, as filming begins.

Inspired by Nikki May’s novel of the same name, Wahala (a West African word for ‘trouble’) is a six-part thriller that’s been called captivating and full of surprises. The story follows four Nigerian-British women in their thirties as they balance their careers, relationships, and families in modern London, while also confronting secrets and dangers from their pasts in Nigeria.

Hidden secrets and troubling pasts are coming to light, threatening to destroy the lives of these women and testing the strength of their friendships. Things are about to get messy!

Adelayo Adedayo (known from Supacell) plays Simi, Boo’s close friend, and Susan Wokoma plays Ronke, completing the group of three inseparable best friends. The show’s description reveals they’ve been sharing all of life’s experiences together for years.

Their peaceful life is turned upside down when they meet Isobel (Deborah Ayorinde), a captivating and incredibly wealthy woman. She brings trouble with her, causing friction, breaking friendships, and revealing secrets from the past. This leads to a series of devastating events.

Ikoko shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming series, saying she’s thrilled to be working with such a talented cast and crew to bring ‘Wahala’ to the screen. The four lead actors echoed her excitement, all eager to be involved in the project.
