As a big Halle Berry fan, I was so glad to see her do a recent interview – she doesn’t do them often! She finally explained why she keeps things pretty private, and she also surprisingly opened up about winning a Razzie award back in 2005. It was also cool to hear about her new company, Respin, which focuses on menopause care. It’s great to see her using her platform for something so important.
Halle Berry recently spoke with The Cut and explained why she’s done so few interviews in the last decade. She said most interviews end up repeating the same old questions, which is why she’s avoided them.
Halle Berry explained she avoided interviews for ten years because she was weary of constantly repeating the same narratives about her life. According to The Cut, Berry feels defined by her past relationships and as though people don’t fully understand her. She has been married three times, to baseball player David Justice, singer Eric Benet, and actor Olivier Martinez, with whom she shares a son.
According to The Cut, Halle Berry’s divorces were highly publicized, with tabloids often detailing personal struggles like custody disputes. Berry recalls that after her third divorce, people began to question her, wondering why she couldn’t maintain a relationship. However, she always responded by asking why she should stay with someone who wasn’t a good fit.
Halle Berry, known for her role in X-Men, became frustrated with interviewers constantly focusing on her romantic life. As she explained, the conversations always seemed to portray her as someone consistently unlucky in love.
When asked to summarize her perspective, Halle Berry responded with the headline, “Hmm. Halle Berry Is Not a Damsel in Distress.” She then added two more statements to clarify her position: “Halle Berry Is Not a Victim of Failed Relationships,” and “Halle Berry Never Said It’s Anyone Else’s Fault.”
Halle Berry, famous for winning an Oscar for her role in Monster’s Ball, also jokingly acknowledged the Razzie Award she received in 2005 for Catwoman. She explained, “Just because I won an Oscar doesn’t mean I’m the best actress, and that Razzie doesn’t mean I’m the worst.”
Shaun Robinson remembers a valuable lesson about taking responsibility, taught to her by her former teacher, Yvonne Sims. Sims helped her understand that things don’t just happen to people—they happen because of people’s actions. If you don’t own up to your role in a situation, you’re likely to repeat the same errors. Robinson and Sims have remained close over the years, and Sims is also the godmother to both of Robinson’s children.
Berry concluded by discussing Respin, her platform designed to support women going through menopause. She explained, “At almost 60, dedicating my energy to women’s health feels like a big and important mission for this next chapter of my life.” Berry also shared that Respin is currently a passion project where she’s investing a lot of her own time and money.
She explained that she felt compelled to take action, adding that many women experience similar uncertainty during midlife. She also acknowledged the challenges of being an entrepreneur, saying, “It’s been a learning curve, especially navigating the role of having a board.”
Halle Berry, known for films like John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Die Another Day, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and Gothika, has a new movie called Crime 101 coming out this month, with other projects also in the works.
