Guy Ritchie’s New 97-Minute Action Thriller Debuts With Unfortunate Rotten Tomatoes Score

returns with a new action-packed movie. However, early reviews haven’t been very enthusiastic.

The new action movie features stars like Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González. It’s director Guy Ritchie’s first film since his previous one, and unfortunately, it’s following a similar pattern of mixed reception. Early reviews gave it a 58% approval rating, classifying it as ‘rotten’.

Currently, the rating is based on just 12 reviews. While the movie has been released, an overall audience score isn’t available yet. However, early reactions seem positive.

What Are Critics Saying About In the Grey?

This action movie centers around a highly skilled, secret team of agents sent on a seemingly impossible mission. Operating in the shadows, they’re a last-hope option for the world’s most challenging problems. When a ruthless dictator steals a massive fortune, no one else will attempt to recover it, and the daring heist that follows becomes a test of their strength, resolve, and ability to survive.

I’ve seen some mixed reactions to this movie. One critic at Slant Magazine said it starts with a really fun, energetic vibe, but quickly becomes confusing and goes nowhere. They described it as a lighthearted action film that gets bogged down in a needlessly complicated plot, full of random twists and, of course, lots of gunfire. The humor was fine at first, but the writer, who also directed, really struggled to make everything connect in a satisfying way.

I have to say, I was really disappointed with In the Grey. One critic, Travis Hopson from Punch Drunk Critics, put it pretty bluntly – he thinks it’s one of Guy Ritchie’s worst films. He pointed out that the movie spends way too much time just explaining the rules of this debt collection world, and honestly, he’s right. An action movie about collecting debts? It just doesn’t sound very thrilling, kind of like if a Star Wars film was all about trade routes instead of, you know, adventure!

Brian Ordorf from Blu-ray.com pointed out that while the film has a violent climax, it’s difficult to stay engaged due to a complicated, underdeveloped script and uninspired acting.

Reviewers generally enjoyed the film, describing it as entertaining, but acknowledged it wasn’t particularly innovative.

Initial reactions to the movie are largely positive. One reviewer praised it as a non-stop, pulse-pounding action thriller, saying it “absolutely delivers” for anyone looking for that kind of experience.

Guy Ritchie Has More Projects in 2026
