Good news for fans of The Day of the Jackal! The Sky original series, which premiered in late 2024, has been renewed for a second season, and some new actors have joined the cast.
Weruche Opia, known for her roles in the BBC’s I May Destroy You and ITV’s The Jetty, will be a main cast member in season two of The Day of the Jackal, according to Deadline.

Pablo Schreiber, known for his work on shows like The Wire and Orange Is the New Black, and recently featured in the Netflix thriller His & Hers, will be joining the cast of The Day of the Jackal for its second season. Eddie Redmayne, who starred as the Jackal in the first season, will also return.

Sky’s new thriller, The Day of the Jackal, quickly became their most popular launch in over two years. Based on Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 novel and written by Ronan Bennett (creator of Top Boy), the show – featuring Lashana Lynch as an intelligence officer – broke viewing records just one week after it premiered, surpassing even The Last of Us.
The film received widespread praise from critics, who described it as captivating, a must-see for thriller fans, and reminiscent of classic thrillers. (Sources: Geek Vibes Nation, Espinof, CBR)

Honestly, everyone’s acting was amazing – seriously, review after review said so. The New York Times really nailed it when they talked about Redmayne’s character, the Jackal, being super mysterious, but then contrasted that with Lynch’s Bianca, who was this wild, unpredictable, and clever character. They said those two were the driving force behind the whole story, and I totally agree! They really made the game come alive.
Digital Spy gave the first season four stars, calling it captivating but fairly typical. They praised both actors, noting that Lynch and Redmayne deliver excellent performances as they pursue each other through beautiful European cities. The review highlighted that Lynch shines in a more understated role, despite her character having less of a glamorous backstory than Redmayne’s.
We also noted that The Day of the Jackal shares similarities with Killing Eve, with the influence of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s excellent first season clearly visible in many scenes.

Okay, so we don’t know much about what Weruche Opia and Pablo Schreiber will be doing in the new season yet, but it sounds like there are some other big changes coming! I heard they’ve brought in a new lead writer for The Day of the Jackal, which is a pretty significant shake-up for the creative team.
Ronan Bennett, the creator of the show, is no longer the main writer, but he will continue to work on the series as an executive producer. Joining the team is David Harrower, known for his work on the successful Sky drama Lockerbie: A Search for the Truth, who will be writing several episodes for the second season.
A release date for The Day of the Jackal season two has not yet been confirmed.
The Day of the Jackal airs on Sky and NOW in the UK.
