Greedfall: The Dying World is receiving a final content update and a previously paid expansion for free, according to the game’s developer, Spiders. This game originally launched as an Early Access title following the 2019 release of Greedfall, and it changed the gameplay from an action RPG to a party-based, turn-based RPG.
Greedfall: The Dying World launched in Early Access in September 2024 and quickly faced criticism for its switch to turn-based combat. Despite this, the game continued development and received a complete 1.0 release on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 in March 2026. Unfortunately, after the publisher, Nacon, declared bankruptcy, the developer, Spiders, followed suit. This likely means development on Greedfall 2 has been permanently halted.
Greedfall: The Dying World’s Potentially Final Update Suggests Last DLC is Free
Spiders, the studio behind the game Greedfall, is closing down. This also means development has stopped on their other game, The Dying World. A final update has been released for The Dying World on Steam, which includes its downloadable content, Peren’s Black Mass. Originally, this DLC was intended as a paid expansion with its own story, but the update doesn’t mention that. According to TheGamer, there are no instructions within the game on how to start the DLC, and even the publisher, Nacon, doesn’t know how to activate it now that the developers are no longer available.

The main issue appears to be a lack of clear communication. With the original developers no longer available to provide answers, the Greedfall community is likely on its own to understand what’s happening. The Peren’s Black Mass expansion was scheduled for May 14th, so there might be an automated system that still needs to activate. However, Nacon, the publisher, is currently facing financial difficulties and has more pressing concerns than a small expansion, so it’s understandable why they haven’t provided any information.
The bigger problem isn’t the quality of Greedfall‘s last expansion, but what will happen to the developers who made it. Spiders has created many solid, mid-budget RPGs over the years, and while Greedfall is their most successful game, they’ve always offered a diverse range of titles. These games weren’t huge hits, but Spiders consistently stood out in the mid-range gaming space. Unfortunately, that space seems to be shrinking, with games either becoming massive AAA productions or very small indie projects, leaving little room for anything in between.
