Gran Turismo 7’s new update broke the physics in hilarious ways
As a long-time fan of the Gran Turismo series, I’ve grown accustomed to the meticulously crafted racing experiences that Polyphony Digital delivers. But with the latest update for Gran Turismo 7 (GT7), I find myself in disbelief and amusement at the unexpected turn of events.
Polyphony Digital, the creators of Gran Turismo 7, released a significant update on Wednesday. This update brought about an improved physics simulation for a more engaging gaming experience, as claimed by the developer. However, the true extent of this enhancement was understated. In reality, the vehicles in GT7 now have the ability to soar through the air.
In the latest update 1.49 for “Gran Turismo 7,” Polyphony Digital implemented improved suspension physics and enhanced tire calculations. Consequently, drivers can expect more authentic weight transfer during turns, resulting in heightened vehicle dynamics and an upgraded overall driving sensation.
Swiftly, players found out that the car maneuvers were far from static as their autos jumped erratically, soared aloft, and somersaulted in mid-air, exhibiting the agility of a fighter jet. Despite being infuriating, it was amusing to observe such antics.

Polyphony Digital acknowledged the problem and is now looking into it. They identified the source as a specific car setting in “Gran Turismo 7” and expressed regret to players for any trouble caused. Meanwhile, it’s advisable to avoid playing the game on PlayStation VR 2 until the issue is resolved to prevent motion sickness.
In the July 25th update version 1.49, we’ve identified an problem:

In March 2022, the new installation of the Gran Turismo series, named Gran Turismo 7, became available to the public. Our assessment of the game was highly favorable, expressing our admiration for how the 25-year-old brand continues to look and perform elegantly.
“In GT7, Gran Turismo remains an exceptional deviation from the norm: a game developed with distinct objectives and unmatched dedication; a game crafted to realize a unique, personal concept; a game that showcases technical precision and engineering on its surface, while harboring historical significance and emotional depth within.”
Gran Turismo 7 is available on PlayStation 5.
