Gothic Remake Gets New Video Showcasing 22 Minutes of Uninterrupted Gameplay

Even though Alkimia Entertainment is yet to fully complete their reimagining of the old RPG “Gothic“, they’ve shared a lengthy 22-minute video showcasing unbroken gameplay from the upcoming game. This video, made available via IGN, offers a sneak peek into some early gameplay segments of the revamped “Gothic”. You can watch it below for a closer look.

The video showcases the gameplay at its best, as it was captured in top-tier cinematic quality at 4K resolution, all powered by a high-end Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card.

Initially, the story progresses at a leisurely pace as the protagonist engages in an extended dialogue with Diego. Later on, players are required to venture further into the mines where they encounter early-game adversaries such as molerats. Similarly to the original version, this remake encourages exploration by offering additional items and equipment as rewards.

As he exits the mine, our unnamed hero embarks on a journey down a crumbling trail beside a hill, eventually encountering a man named Drax, a skilled hunter. In their discussion, the protagonist strikes a bargain with Drax: he’ll assist in a hunt, and in exchange, Drax will provide him with a campsite.

As a gamer, I’d say one of the standout features of Gothic is its intense, unforgiving combat. Newcomers beware: Death lurks around every corner for those who venture unprepared in this RPG. Even though early foes might seem weak, a single misstep can send you back to your latest save point.

In my perspective, the intriguing element of Gothic that I’ve noticed is its deep exploration of socio-political events within its universe. This is vividly demonstrated in the game as well. As we delve into this immersive world, we are tasked with discerning who our allies and potential threats might be. We must also navigate through complex relationships, choosing whom to trust and keeping a wary eye on suspicious characters.

Additionally, another aspect that adds to the challenge is the requirement of convincing skilled combatants to train us. This is crucial for our character’s growth and progression. It’s not just about mastering combat skills; it’s about understanding the politics, power dynamics, and intrigues that shape this world. This depth makes the game experience all the more captivating and immersive.

Recently, team members from Alkimia Entertainment, responsible for the Gothic remake, shared what they find unique about the classic RPG that inspired them. Art director Daniel Candil, music composer and sound designer Kai Rosenkranz, along with senior game designer Hector Fuster, each highlighted their personal favorites from the original Gothic game.

In March 2021, it was made known that Alkimia Entertainment would be responsible for creating the updated version of the game titled Gothic. This studio, though fairly young, has yet to release any other games.

The first time I played Gothic, I was astonished to find that many situations could be resolved by exploiting others,” expressed technical artist Roger Llovera. “Naturally, others would exploit you as well, but there were opportunities where you could manipulate a character into killing a Scavenger on your behalf.

In August 2024, a gameplay trailer was unveiled offering us our first comprehensive glimpse into the main environment of the game Gothic, known as the Valley of Mines. This trailer also revealed some fresh story elements exclusive to the remake, in addition to its revamped portrayal of Non-Player Characters (NPCs) and new gameplay improvements.

Originally announced in 2020, the game called “Gothic” is currently being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The publisher, THQ Nordic, has hinted that gamers should keep an eye out for the remake of “Gothic” during the upcoming Steam Next Fest, which takes place between February 24 and March 3.
