Gloria Estefan speaks out against ICE raids after Grammy win with husband Emilio

After receiving the award for Best Tropical Latin Album at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, Gloria Estefan publicly addressed the recent ICE raids.

The 68-year-old Cuban singer stated that the United States needs to stay committed to its democratic values, because those values are what attract people to the country.

Estefan, who became a U.S. citizen in 1974, urged government officials at a press conference in the Crypto.com Arena to listen to calls for compassion, saying that’s what the world needs most.

In addition to the recent shooting deaths of two Americans in Minnesota, six people held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have died in custody this year, following 32 deaths last year.

Oh my gosh, you guys, Shakira finally won an American Grammy! And not just any Grammy ā€“ it was for ‘RaĆ­ces,’ her first album in Spanish in eighteen years! I’ve been following her forever, and it’s amazing to see her get this recognition. This makes six American Grammys total, on top of the five Latin Grammys she already has. Estefan, originally named Gloria Marƭa Milagrosa Fajardo Garcƭa, won against strong competition including Grupo Niche, Alain PƩrez, Gilberto Santa Rosa, and the duo RubƩn Blades and Roberto Delgado & Orquesta.

Most of the 13 songs on the album were written and produced by Emilio Estefan Jr., who also manages and is married to the actress from Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie.

The song “Mi NiƱo Bello (Para Sasha)” on the album RaĆ­ces is a special dedication from Estefan to her grandson, Sasha, who is thirteen years old and the only child of her son, Nayib Estefan, age forty-five.

The singer shared with Billboard EspaƱol last year that he and his child have had a remarkably close and loving connection since the childā€™s birth.

After 47 years of marriage, the couple were accompanied on the red carpet by their daughter, Emily Estefan, who is their youngest child.

Estefan collaborated with the 31-year-old singer to write the songs and lyrics for a new musical called Basura, directed by Michael Greif. The musical will be performed at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, from May 30th to July 12th.

Recently, Sharon Osbourne had a heartwarming reunion with her family, marking her first public appearance after the passing of her husband, Ozzy Osbourne, on July 22nd.

‘You look wonderful! It’s good to see you!’ the 73-year-old widow beamed.

Estefan then said, ‘You remember Emily, my daughter?’

‘Of course,’ Osbourne replied.

‘You look beautiful,’ the Miami Dolphins minority owner praised before sharing her condolences.

Estefan and the musician, who is now 72 years old, first became a couple in 1976 while performing together in the Miami Sound Machine.

Gloria Estefan, previously a translator, has had 29 songs chart on the Billboard Hot 100, including popular tracks like “Conga,” “Rhythm is Gonna Get You,” and “Get On Your Feet.” She’s also reached the top of the charts three times with the songs “Anything For You,” “Don’t Wanna Lose You,” and “Coming Out of the Dark.”

Estefan, a globally successful artist with over 100 million records sold, continues to attract 5.6 million listeners each month on Spotify.

As a huge fan, I was thrilled to hear that this University of Miami alum is now a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame! It’s so well-deserved, especially considering all the other incredible recognition they’ve received ā€“ the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Kennedy Center Honors, and the Gershwin Award are just amazing.
