Gilmore Girls’ Lauren Graham shares spin-off idea
As a long-time Gilmore Girls enthusiast who has binge-watched the series more times than I can count, Lauren Graham’s idea of a prequel show focusing on young Lorelai Gilmore sparked excitement and intrigue within me. The thought of witnessing the early days of Stars Hollow’s beloved quick-witted mother, Lorelai, is like unearthing a time capsule filled with pop culture references, heartfelt moments, and witty banter.
Actress Lauren Graham, who played a key role on “Gilmore Girls,” has proposed an intriguing concept for a sequel series: it would take us back in time, showing the story of Lorelai Gilmore’s arrival in Stars Hollow when she was still a teenage girl.
In 2016, the classic series got a fresh take through the Netflix miniseries titled “A Year in the Life“, yet Graham proposes an alternative way for fans to re-enter the world of the Gilmores.
To E! News, Graham suggested delving into Lorelai Gilmore’s past by creating a prequel series. She mentioned that it could focus on Lorelai during her high school years, saying, “We could have High School Lorelai.
She humorously implied that the situation resembled “The Hobbit” but wasn’t certain if it did, instead suggesting that other realms might have addressed the issue by moving backwards or forwards in time.
Instead of embracing the idea, Graham appeared to express reservations, pointing out numerous challenges involved in producing a prequel series. In her words: “That raises the issue of finding suitable actors for younger versions of Babette and Miss Patty, which I’m not sure about.
Recently, fans got a peek into the current lives of Luke and Lorelai, as actors Graham and Scott Peterson, who portrayed Luke Danes in the series, returned to their roles for a Walmart holiday commercial.
Regarding the advertisement, Graham commented that Luke and Lorelai appear to be very much a couple. He further mentioned, “As for any future grandkids, I’m not sure, but they seem content living in town and enjoying their life together.
Speaking about the possibility of another reunion, Graham mentioned: “It seems the conditions would be similar to those that brought us together previously. Essentially, it requires a fresh creative idea, one that satisfies our audience’s expectations while also respecting the legacy we’ve built.
You can find all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls on both Netflix and ITVX. However, A Year in the Life is only available exclusively on Netflix.
