Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Materials, Weapons, Artifacts, Abilities, Playstyle, and Team Comps

In this article, we’ll delve into the details of the latest update, version 4.7 of Genshin Impact, which introduces a unique, event-limited character – “Candlebearer, Shadowhunter” Clorinde, a 5-star electro sword user. Here, you will find comprehensive information on how to effectively build and utilize Clorinde in your Genshin Impact gameplay.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Abilities description

Talent upgrade priority

As a gamer, I’ve found no reason to enhance my character’s regular attacks since the multipliers for her pistol and lunge attacks originate from her Elemental Skill. While her Elemental Burst isn’t a significant damage source, it’s crucial to upgrade it to at least level 7 because the Battle Lust (BoL) gained from her Burst depends on its level.

Elemental Skill > Elemental Burst

Normal Attack: Oath of Hunting Shadows

Normal Attack

Performs up to 5 rapid strikes.

Charged Attack

Uses a specific quantity of stamina and shoots dispersed, suppressive bullets from her pistol.

Plunging Attack

Falls dramatically from the sky to collide with the ground beneath, causing harm to adversaries as it passes and inflicting Area of Effect damage upon landing.

Elemental Skill: Hunter’s Vigil

readying her pistol, Clorinde enters a state known as Night Vigil, where she combines steel and ammunition. In this mode, her regular attacks will morph into swift hunt pistol shots. The damage dealt becomes electro damage that cannot be influenced by infusions, and during this state, she won’t be able to perform charged attacks.

In this rephrased version, I have used simpler language and clarified the transformation of normal attacks into swift hunt pistol attacks, the conversion of regular damage into electro damage, and the inability to use charged attacks while in Night Vigil state.

By employing her Elemental Skill, she’ll turn it into a “Stab of the Dark”: Execute a charging assault, inflicting Electro damage as a Normal Attack. The damage inflicted using this method is categorized as Normal Attack damage.

Swift Hunt

  • When her Bond of Life is equal to or greater than 100% of her max HP: Performs a pistolet shot.
  • When her Bond of Life is less than 100%, firing her pistolet will grant her Bond of Life, with the amount gained based on her max HP. The shots she fires can pierce opponents, and DMG dealt to opponents in their path is increased.

Impale the Night

The current percentage value of Clorinde’s Bond of Life determines its effect:

  • When the Bond of Life value is 0%, perform a normal lunging strike;
  • When the Bond of Life value is less than 100% of her max HP, Clorinde is healed based on the Bond of Life value, and the AoE of the lunging attack and the DMG dealt is increased;
  • When the value of the Bond of Life is equal to or greater than 100% of her max HP, use Impale the Night: Pact. The healing multiplier is increased, and the AoE and DMG dealt by the lunge is increased even further.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to share an interesting detail about Clorinde’s Night Vigil state: during this phase, healing effects other than Impale the Night are transformed rather than applied. Instead, they are converted into a Bond of Life, which is a proportion of the healing that would have been bestowed.

Clorinde will exit the “Night Vigil” state when she leaves the field.

Arkhe: Ousia

Regularly, when Clorinde’s Swift Hunt attacks land on enemies, she calls forth a Surging Blade at the struck location, dealing Electro damage aligned with Ousia.

Elemental Burst: Last Lightfall

She fortifies a “Life Barrier” based on her maximum health points, then swiftly dodges and attacks with her saber and sidearm simultaneously, discharging Area-of-Effect Electrical damage.

Ascension 1 Passive: Dark-Shattering Flame

Following a party member activating an Electro ability on an enemy, Clorinde’s Normal Attacks and Last Lightfall deal 20% more damage for each stack of ATK she has, up to three stacks, over a period of 15 seconds. Each stack is independent, and the maximum total damage increase that can be achieved in this manner is 1,800.

Ascension 4 Passive: Lawful Remuneration

If Cornide’s Bond of Life equals or surpasses 100% of her maximum health, her critical rate will boost by 10% for 15 seconds whenever her Bond of Life value rises or falls. A maximum of two stacks can be achieved, with each stack being considered separately. Moreover, during the active period of Hunter’s Vigil’s Night Vigil state, the proportion of healing that adds to Bond of Life is amplified to 100%.

Utility Passive: Night Vigil’s Harvest

Displays the location of nearby resources unique to Fontaine on the mini-map.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Abilities explained

Understanding the Bond of Life mechanic

Clorinde’s gameplay strategy primarily revolves around the concept of the Bond of Life mechanic. To fully grasp her abilities, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with this feature first, as it was recently introduced in Fontaine. This mechanism can be applied to characters through specific enemies or weapons.

  • BoL covers the HP bar with a red bar
  • It prevents the character from getting healed
  • BoL is applied as a percentage of max HP rather than a fixed amount
  • The total amount of BoL is 200% (2x of max HP). Since the red bar covering the HP bar is proportional to the BoL and max HP, it covers half of the amount of BoL. If the BoL is 100%, the red bar will cover half of the HP bar, if the BoL is 200%, it will cover the entire HP bar
  • BoL acts like an additional HP that needs to be removed by healing before the actual HP of the character can be healed. For example, if a character has 100 points of BoL then they need to be healed for 100 points before their actual HP can be healed
  • BoL can be cleared by healing a specific amount by visiting the Statue of the Seven
  • BoL has a duration of 10 minutes, after which it will be cleared on its own

Clorinde acquires Boundless Potential (BoL) when she launches Normal Attacks following her Skill activation, and she can also acquire it through her Elemental Burst. Employing her Skill while in the Night Vigil state will deplete BoL and restore her health. During the Night Vigil state, healing received from allies will transform into Boundless Potential.

Normal Attack: Oath of Hunting Shadows

This is not an important part of her kit.

Elemental Skill: Hunter’s Vigil

In this scenario, Clorinde enters a special state called “Night Vigil” following the activation of her skill. During this state, her attacks become electrified and are immune to interference. Performing regular attacks increases her Battle Lust (BoL) by 35%. After executing three normal attacks, she amasses a maximum BoL of 105%, which is the limit set by her skill. These ordinary attacks can also pass through enemies if they are aligned. Importantly, Clorinde does not need to hit enemies to build Battle Lust.

After performing three standard attacks in a row, she won’t be able to accumulate any more Blade of Light (BoL). If she currently has any BoL, activating her skill again will deplete all of it and execute a charging attack with her sword in a forward direction. Additionally, she recovers health based on the quantity of BoL spent. However, if she uses her skill without any BoL, the charging attack will be significantly weaker.

This move’s healing and damage output are determined by the amount of BoL she possesses, with the maximum effect occurring at 100% BoL. However, using the forward lunge should only be done when her BoL exceeds 100%, as any additional BoL beyond this point does not influence the damage output.

It’s important to note that Clorinde cannot be healed while in the Night Vigil state. Furthermore, she requires being in the Night Vigil state to execute the forward lunge; merely having BoL is insufficient. Additionally, 80% of the healing she receives from allies is converted into BoL during the Night Vigil state.

Elemental Burst: Last Lightfall

Her Burst ability discharges 5 units of Electro damage multiple times, each instance carrying the same amplifier. Additionally, upon activating her Burst, she acquires a certain amount of Burst of Light (BoL), an amount that increases based on the level of her Burst talent. This acquired BoL is sufficient for her to execute a forward leap without first accumulating BoL through pistol shots.

The Burst’s Bonus Life (BoL) acquired can surpass the maximum limit of 100% for her Skill. This implies that if she currently has BoL from her Skill, the additional BoL from her Burst will be added. However, any BoL beyond 100% does not influence Damage in any way, so it’s advisable to refrain from using the Burst when she already has BoL.

Ascension 1 Passive: Dark-Shattering Flame

As a gamer, I’ve got a sweet deal with my character Clorinde. Whenever any party member sparks an Electro reaction, her attack power surges by 20%! The best part? She can stack up to three times, so the more reactions she sees, the beefier she gets!

The maximum boost in ATK that she can receive is 1800, which means any base ATK above 3000 will not be taken into account for this passive ability. As a result, Clorinde, with a base ATK of 3000 and an additional 1800 ATK boost, can easily achieve 4800 ATK due to this passive effect.

Ascension 4 Passive: Lawful Remuneration

Clorinde’s Critical Hit Rate (CRIT) gets an enhancement when his Base of Life (BoL) either goes up or down once it has reached 100%. This can be done effortlessly in standard gameplay.

Utility Passive: Night Vigil’s Harvest

Useful exploration is passive for Fontaine.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Playstyle

In a simplified approach, Clorinde primarily employs three strategies: triggering her skill, maximizing her Battle Orb Level (BoL), and executing the frontal thrust attack. It’s best to hold off on using her Burst once BoL is at its maximum.

  • Burst (gain BoL)
  • Rotate through teammate abilities
  • Skill (activate Night Vigil state), Skill (forward lunge attack, consumes BoL gained from Burst), then 3 Normal Attacks (gain BoL), Skill (forward lunge)
  • Repeat this until the Night Vigil state lasts

If her Burst isn’t ready then the rotation will look different.

  • Skill
  • 3 Normal Attacks
  • Skill
  • Repeat this until the Night Vigil state lasts

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Materials

In the role of Electro character Clorinde, Vajrada Amethyst crystals are employed for her ascent, which can be sourced either from the Electro Hypostasis or the Electro Regisvine. The Fontemer Unihorn required for ascension is obtainable from the “Millennial Pearl Seahorse”. Her talent materials can be found in the Pale Forgotten Glory domain on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Materials for her talents’ boss battles can be gathered from the Guardian of Apep’s Oasis weekly boss encounter.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Best Artifacts for Clorinde

Clorinde primarily scales with Attack points and possesses a unique ability referred to as the “Life Bond mechanism.” This mechanism reduces her own health to boost the power of her attacks.

In essence, when utilizing Clorinde, focus primarily on boosting her Attack (ATK) scaling and enhancements. An ATK Sands is crucial, followed by an Electro DMG Goblet, and finally a CRIT Circlet. Prioritize sub-stats in the order of Critical Rate (CRIT), Elemental Mastery (EM), and lastly Attack, with Energy Recharge (ER) being an added bonus, although not essential. Remember that the Sands and Goblet can be swapped based on your specific build and team choices when deploying Clorinde.

SandsGobletCirclet
ATK% (EM for a more Aggravate/Hyperbloom Build)Electro DMG% (or ATK% for a more consistent build)CRIT rate/CRIT DMG
4pc Fragment of Harmonic Whimsy2-Piece Bonus
ATK +18%

4-Piece Bonus
When the value of a Bond of Life increases or decreases, this character deals 18% increased DMG for 6s. Max 3 stacks.

Reason:
Clorinde’s best-in-slot set. The set provides ATK and gives DMG stack bonus when her Bond of Life changes. It can be maxed out up to 54% DMG bonus.

4pc Thundering Fury2-Piece Bonus
Electro DMG Bonus +15%

4-Piece Bonus
Increases DMG caused by Overloaded, Electro-Charged, Superconduct, and Hyperbloom by 40%, and the DMG Bonus conferred by Aggravate is increased by 20%. When Quicken or the aforementioned Elemental Reactions are triggered, Elemental Skill CD is decreased by 1s. Can only occur once every 0.8s.

Reason:
Another ideal set for Clorinde as she can reduce her Skill cool-down by triggering Electro-related reactions. Additionally, the set will allow Clorinde to enter her Night Vigil state a lot quicker after the previous state expires. Best for Hyperbloom Clorinde.

4pc Gladiator’s Finale2-Piece Bonus
ATK +18%.
4-Piece Bonus
If the wielder of this artifact set uses a Sword, Claymore, or Polearm, increases their Normal Attack DMG by 35%.

Reason:
The set provides ATK bonus and Normal Attack DMG Bonus which is perfect for Clorinde since her main damage will come from her NA and CA. A great set if you haven’t farmed her BiS set yet.

4pc Marechaussee Hunter2-Piece Bonus
Normal and Charged Attack DMG +15%
4-Piece Bonus
When current HP increases or decreases, CRIT Rate will be increased by 12% for 5s. Max 3 stacks.

Reason:
Another good set although not ideal as Clorinde can be at risk for over capping on Crit Rate. Having Furina paired with Clorinde will help elevate the effect due to her healing.

Regarding her Emergency Response (ER) threshold, it can range from minimal to nearly nonexistent. This is influenced by several factors, one of which is that her Elemental Burst has a relatively low Energy Cost, meaning you’ll usually regenerate it swiftly based on your team composition and energy resources.

A significant aspect to consider is that her Elemental Burst isn’t typically the primary focus in her skill set, as most damage comes from her Skill and Normal Attacks. You might activate her Burst every other rotation or so. Therefore, it’s generally advisable to target a 100%-140% Energy Recharge , especially when fighting alongside additional Electro party members.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Constellations

All her constellations increase damage output, though none are essential for the process. Both C1 and C2 serve as excellent checkpoints. For whales, you’re free to reach as far as you desire.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Best Team Compositions for Clorinde

Clorinde thrives in a specific team composition: the Aggravate team. This is due to her rapid Electro abilities, which make her a powerful member in this type of setup. Her ideal teammates are Nahida for Dendro, Fischl for additional Aggravates, and the 4th slot can be filled by support characters like Kazuha, Zhongli, or Sucrose.

Clorinde and other DPS in Genshin Impact

Clorinde is an enjoyable and fashionable character to control, yet she comes with two significant flaws: poor resistance to interruptions and low skill availability time. Combining these weaknesses can sometimes make her a bit cumbersome to manage. In contrast, characters introduced in Genshin Impact after Fontaine, such as Neuvillette, Arlecchino, and others, typically have optimal uptime with minimal downtime.

In her current state, Clorinde’s ability duration is so swift that failing to press the buttons quickly could prevent you from executing more than three full combos. This might be problematic in the post-Fontaine game environment. While her damage output isn’t significantly low if she’s used in teams specifically designed for Aggravate, she falls slightly short compared to other DPS characters that have been released after Fontaine. In essence, she’s not poor by any means, but just a bit less impressive.
