Gavin & Stacey star shares sneak peek of Christmas special script

As a dedicated Gavin & Stacey fan with over a decade of emotional investment in the lives of Smithy and Nessa, I can hardly contain my excitement as I eagerly await the 2024 Christmas Special! The script sneak-peek shared by Joanna Page has only heightened my anticipation. Rumors of a wedding have been swirling since location filming started, and if there’s one thing Gavin & Stacey has taught us, it’s that no relationship is straightforward in the world of Barry Island!

Actress Joanna Page, known for her role in Gavin & Stacey, has given a glimpse into the Christmas special script after wrapping up production.

On Instagram, Page shared a picture of her heavily-used, copyrighted ‘last reading script’, accompanied by the caption: “Time to move on!” or simply “End of the line!”.

On the first page of the document, dated August 14th, you’ll find the phrase “Toffee Apple” as well as Joanna’s name inscribed in both the upper left and right corners.

The co-creator of Gavin & Stacey, Ruth Jones, also announced the wrap-up of filming on social media by posting a heartfelt message alongside a photo of a clapperboard.

“And that’s a wrap… for the last time ever,” her caption read. “See you on Christmas Day!”

It has been confirmed by Jones and her “Gavin & Stacey” collaborator, James Corden, that a fresh one-time installment will be released, after much anticipation over several months.

Five years following the 2019 Christmas special’s cliffhanger, during which Jones’ character Nessa proposed to Corden’s Smithy, it will be broadcast.

Since the final episode aired, viewers have been discussing and even guessing the storyline, with whispers growing louder following the commencement of filming at the specified locations.

Though specific storyline details remain undisclosed, snapshots from filming hint at an upcoming wedding scene.

On the final day of filming in September, Jones spoke to the audience and said: “You haven’t glimpsed anything yet since we’ve been shooting indoors. This demonstrates your unwavering dedication to the show, and we promise that by Christmas Day, everything will be unveiled without disappointing you.

We bid adieu to Barry and Trinity Street; our future visits are no longer planned here. But, what a remarkable 17-year journey it has been! It’s simply been extraordinary.

The first three seasons of the TV series “Gavin & Stacey” can be streamed on BBC iPlayer. Additionally, a special 2024 Christmas episode of “Gavin & Stacey” will air on both BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Christmas Day.
