FromSoftware says “we are profoundly thankful for your lasting devotion” as Elden Ring hits 30 million copies sold ahead of Switch 2 launch
Three years after its debut, Elden Ring has surpassed another significant sales milestone, with FromSoftware announcing that it has sold over 30 million copies globally. This means a huge number of players are now exploring the world as Tarnished characters, and undoubtedly many more encounters with formidable foes like Malenia.
A whopping 30 million players are now exploring the world of Elden Ring, and the creators are deeply appreciative for their continued devotion.
Clearly, it’s obvious that 30 million is a substantial figure, but when you consider it in relation to the sales of the Dark Souls trilogy, it takes on an even more impressive scale. As per Bandai Namco’s 2024 Fact Book, the Dark Souls series had sold a total of 37 million units worldwide by March 2024. Therefore, while there is a significant gap between the entire franchise and Elden Ring as a standalone game, it’s not so astronomically large that it cannot be bridged.
It’s important to mention that the estimated total Dark Souls sales might be significantly more than 37 million units now. The data used is over a year old, and upon closer inspection, it only includes overseas sales where Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. was the initial seller (excluding domestic sales from FromSoftware, Inc.).
It appears that some crucial information is apparently absent, despite the strong likelihood that Elden Ring has made substantial progress in achieving its overall target.
30 million sales is nothing to ignore, and with Elden Ring being one of the most anticipated Switch 2 games, it’s likely that number will grow even more. This year, a large number of Nintendo fans who haven’t yet explored the world of the Lands Between may jump into the action RPG experience. (Dark Souls comparisons aside)
If Elden Ring performs well on it, many people might consider buying an additional copy of the game on the Switch 2, particularly those who don’t possess a Steam Deck. The allure of exploring Leyndell or encountering Radahn’s destruction while mobile is enticing to many.
