FromSoftware ruins my entire week by announcing Elden Ring Nightreign’s next Everdark boss fight is the bug duo that frankly already sucks

In simpler terms, Elden Ring Nightreign persistently darkens its Nightlord battles by introducing new super-bosses such as Gnoster, also known as the frustrating double-trouble insect and arachnid showdown where a magical moth and enormous scorpion team up to become incredibly irritating.

In their latest tweet, FromSoftware hints at a dark presence emanating from the cover of night. To counteract its gloomy sway, they urge players to let the fires of redemption blaze. The new boss is set to appear on Thursday, July 3 at 3am CEST, which translates to Wednesday, July 2 at 6pm PST / 9pm EST for those in the United States.

I can’t help but imagine the trouble Everdark Gnoster is brewing. To me, this character seems to be an unexpected blend from two different games – Armored Core and Elden Ring. It moves swiftly, retaliates harshly against close combat, and bombards the screen with a barrage of projectiles. This can make for an exhilarating battle when you’re controlling a mech, but when you’re playing as a swordsman, it feels more like a challenge than enjoyable, especially due to the prolonged periods where significant damage can’t be inflicted.

Among the bosses in Nightreign and the entire FromSoftware collection, this one is particularly disliked by many players, including myself. It seems I’m not alone in my sentiment. Now, it’s not a terrible boss by any means, but it doesn’t quite reach the quality that FromSoftware is known for. So, what improvements can we expect in the buffed version? Perhaps more magical beams of light or an additional glitch, maybe even a third one?

Initially, in the first fight against Adel, the Everdark boss, he established a challenging benchmark for these altered battles. While it’s debatable that his standard form might be relatively easy for Nightreign, the Everdark adaptation introduced numerous new moves that could swiftly teleport you back to the main hub without a second thought.

In an unexpected turn of events, Everdark Fulghor wasn’t as challenging as expected. Despite Fulghor being known for his difficulty in the baseline version, his Everdark form didn’t drastically alter the fight. Even his deadliest attacks could be managed or dodged with some strategic planning. I found more victories against Fulghor compared to Adel, and some players were taken aback by how manageable he was.

This raises the question: will Gnoster prove to be relatively mild or incredibly challenging? Given its current difficulty level and the fact that Everdark bosses already start in their second phase, which is when Gnoster’s light show intensifies significantly before transitioning into a new third phase, it’s uncertain what awaits us.

For me, the advantage lies in Gnoster being vulnerable to fire, a type of damage that Nightreign frequently uses. Even better, my recent journeys into Everdark have equipped me with a powerful collection of fire-based artifacts for Wylder. However, the downside is that I’m still just an ordinary swordsman, so this might be painful.
