Foul play suspected in the disappearance of ‘Today’ host Savannah Guthrie’s mom

Savannah Guthrie’s mother has gone missing from her home in Arizona, and police believe someone may have harmed her.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office reports that 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday night at her home in a community northeast of Tucson.

Sheriff Chris Nanos announced Monday morning that the investigation has shifted from a missing person search to a criminal investigation.

“We do in fact have a crime scene, we do in fact have a crime,” Nanos said at a news conference.

“She did not leave on her own, we know that,” he said. “She’s very limited in her mobility.”

Savannah Guthrie, a host on ‘Today,’ is recovering from vocal surgery and has been mostly keeping her voice a secret. She joined Tuesday’s show by phone to give listeners an update on how she’s doing.

On Sunday night, Police Chief Nanos stated that the disappearance didn’t seem like a normal missing person situation, and his department had sent homicide detectives to the missing woman’s house to investigate.

Nanos expressed serious concerns about what investigators are discovering at Woody Guthrie’s former home. While he didn’t share specific details during Sunday’s press conference, he did state that Guthrie appeared to have been mentally sharp and showed no signs of cognitive decline.

“This isn’t somebody that just wandered off,” Nanos reiterated Monday morning.

On Monday morning, the hosts of “Today” read a message from Savannah Guthrie, where she expressed gratitude to viewers for their well wishes and support.

Our family’s top priority is bringing our mother home safely,” the “Today” show personality shared. She asked anyone with information about her mother’s whereabouts to please contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Awards

Bad Bunny’s album of the year win was a historic moment at the Grammys. Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Dean were also major winners during the show.

On Monday morning, Jenna Bush Hager, one of the hosts of “Today,” mentioned that Nancy Guthrie seemed to be missing a needed medication.

“We’re doing all we can to try to locate her,” Nanos said.
