Sackbird Studios, a new game development team in Baltimore formed by veterans of games like *The Elder Scrolls Online* and the unreleased *Project Blackbird*, has officially launched. They’re working on a brand new game for consoles and PC, and plan to reveal details when it’s further along in development.
The team behind this new studio includes experienced leaders and developers who previously worked on popular games like *The Elder Scrolls Online* and *Project Blackbird*. The studio is small – currently with fewer than 10 people – but boasts a highly skilled and dedicated team, and is designed to prioritize the needs of its developers for long-term success.
Sackbird Studios, after a long time working on major titles, wanted the ability to take creative chances without needing approval or focusing solely on short-term profits, according to COO David Worley. Because the studio is entirely owned and funded by its employees, they explained, they’re accountable only to those who love making games.
Lee Ridout, CEO of Sackbird Studios, shared that their experience at ZeniMax Online Studios was formative, both professionally and personally. When they heard about the cancellation of Blackbird and the resulting job losses, it motivated them to start their own studio. They believe creating Sackbird Studios, where creative freedom is a priority, was the best way to safeguard their work and support their team.
