FootJoy Is Moving Past Its Collaboration Era

Summary

  • FootJoy announces the new Legends Series celebrating major championship moments
  • The arrival of the Packard and Marquis 1776 confirms that collaborations have become less central
  • The design pulls from the rich history of Philadelphia while delivering performance integrity for elite-level play

So, FootJoy’s changed things up a bit. They’re not automatically doing collaborations anymore, which is interesting. I mean, everyone went crazy for the Aimé Leon Dore x FootJoy shoes – seriously, people were calling them the best golf shoes ever! But remember The PLAYERS Championship? They didn’t drop a special shoe like they used to with the Jon Buscemi collab, which had been a big hit for years. And then at The Masters, they did something totally different: a super limited release that only FootJoy members could snag, either at the tournament or online. It feels like they’re trying new things instead of just relying on collabs all the time.

For this year’s second major golf tournament, FootJoy has revealed its plans. While they previously collaborated with Todd Snyder, this year they’re focusing on the Legends Series—a collection of special, limited-edition shoes designed to celebrate the cities hosting the major championships.

The new Premiere Series Packard and Marquis 1776 shoes celebrate Philadelphia’s rich history, as the city will host the PGA Championship next week. While they feature obvious nods to the city – like Liberty Bell designs and red, white, and blue colors – the shoes also draw inspiration from Philadelphia’s architecture in a more understated way. The grey leather on the upper part of the shoes is meant to resemble the city’s historic stone and granite buildings.

The new shoes will be released on Tuesday, May 12th, and more designs in the Legends Series are planned for June and July, coinciding with the U.S. Open and Open Championship. It seems that fans who enjoyed FootJoy’s previous partnerships will now be focusing on the Aimé Leon Dore collaboration, as it’s currently the only one available.
