First trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein revealed at Netflix Tudum is a gothic fever dream with an obsessed Oscar Isaac and monstrous Jacob Elordi

The initial teaser for Guillermo del Toro’s version of Frankenstein is out now, and it’s every bit as stunningly eerie as one might expect.

In the short video available for viewing, we find Oscar Isaac’s character, Victor Frankenstein, embarking on a chilling voyage. He shares his experience by stating, “I experienced a dreadful vision, an idea that gradually materialized within my thoughts.

In this scene, we watch him share his groundbreaking scientific findings with skeptics, followed by a quick transition showing him ascending a tower to trigger an electric jolt – the same jolt that breathes life into Frankenstein’s monster. The sequence concludes dramatically as the monster slays crew members on a ship, creating an eerie and chilling atmosphere.

A different teaser was initially shown behind closed doors at a Netflix event earlier this year.

The movie, based on Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, revolves around Dr. Pretorious, portrayed by Christoph Waltz, who is tasked with locating Frankenstein’s Creature, thought to have perished in a fire 40 years earlier. His goal is to continue the contentious research initiated by Dr. Victor Frankenstein, as played by Oscar Isaac.

Del Toro’s version of Frankenstein, initially planned in 2007, faced a halt at Universal Studios by 2014. However, the project was brought back to life by Netflix in 2023.

Apart from the main actors, we’ve gathered a talented ensemble featuring Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Christian Convery, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Charles Dance, and Ralph Ineson.

At first, Andrew Garfield had been chosen to play the role of Frankenstein’s Monster, but he ultimately couldn’t take on the part because of scheduling issues resulting from the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
