Now that the Multiverse Saga is wrapping up next year, Marvel Studios is already thinking about what comes next. Sources say they’re planning a Disney+ series centered around a popular character from the Thunderbolts, as part of the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Scheduled for release in 2025, the movie Thunderbolts combines characters from the Captain America, Ant-Man, and Black Widow universes. The film pits these heroes against Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Lewis Pullman as the powerful Sentry, who also battles with his evil side, the Void.
After the Void was defeated in Thunderbolts*, Sentry became a member of the team, which Valentine then relaunched as the New Avengers. A scene after the credits showed what happened 14 months later, hinting at the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday storyline and the arrival of the Fantastic Four into their world.
Which fan-favorite Thunderbolts* character may receive his own Disney+ series after Avengers: Secret Wars?
Since Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour, and Hannah John-Kamen are all set to reprise their roles as Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, John Walker, Sentry, Red Guardian, and Ava Starr in the upcoming film Doomsday, it’s likely Marvel Studios has long-term plans for these characters even after the current Multiverse Saga ends.
A source on X, known as MAJESTIC_ucm, is reporting that a Sentry series is planned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the current reboot. The series is expected to be based on the recent Sentry comic book, with the first issue released on March 18th. The show will also include Normie, Sentry’s dog.
It’s currently unknown whether the upcoming Sentry MCU series will closely follow the story from the recent comic book miniseries. That comic focuses on the incredibly powerful hero known as Sentry, and his internal struggle with a dangerous, dark force born from his own mind – the Void. The story centers on Sentry fighting to save reality when the Void reappears, battling both external threats and his own inner demons.
Currently, reports about changes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe are just rumors, so they shouldn’t be considered confirmed until Marvel Studios makes an official announcement. One persistent rumor suggests the MCU will be completely restarted after the ‘Secret Wars’ storyline. However, in September 2025, Kevin Feige explained that Marvel is planning a ‘reset’ rather than a full ‘reboot.’ He clarified that a reboot can be interpreted in many ways, while a ‘reset’ implies a single, continuing timeline.
Sentry will next be seen in Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026.
