Eva Longoria reveals what she misses most about US two years after fleeing ‘dystopian’ America

Eva Longoria has recently discussed the sacrifices she made after leaving the United States in 2024.

Actress Eva Longoria, 51, shared with People magazine that one of the hardest adjustments she’s faced recently was being away from family and friends. This came about after she and her husband, José Bastón, decided to divide their time between Mexico and Spain. She recently turned heads at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s gala.

You know, being away from home always gets to you. I was just thinking about my family back in Texas – I really miss them! And honestly? Right up there with missing my loved ones is craving some truly good, authentic Mexican food. It’s a little piece of home I’m always dreaming about!

She said she really misses good Mexican food, which isn’t readily available in Europe. She likely gets to enjoy it when her family returns to Mexico, though.

The

Texas-born
actress, who had spent her ‘whole adult life’ in California, previously said that she feels the American ‘chapter in my life is done now,’ and she said she no longer wants to live in
Los Angeles
, which she said has been ‘changing.’

Besides adjusting to being away from family and craving familiar foods, Longoria also needed to get used to a slower pace of life after experiencing the cultures of Spain and Europe.

Eva Longoria shared that people in Spain truly savor life, noting a big difference from the quicker pace of things in the United States. She explained that Spaniards enjoy taking their time, especially with meals, and aren’t focused on rushing.

Eva Longoria, who has a seven-year-old son named Santiago with her husband, said she didn’t mind skipping the ‘working lunch.’

The actress, known for her role on Desperate Housewives, pointed out how unusual it is that people often skip proper lunch breaks at work. She described the common ‘working lunch’ – quickly grabbing something to eat while still technically on the clock – and how stressful it is to feel rushed to finish and get back to work in just an hour.

Longoria praised Spain for making streets safer for walkers by giving pedestrians priority over cars, making it easy for her to get around on foot near her house.

She also shared that her family was now spending more time in Los Angeles, where she had already gone to prepare for directing her next movie, ‘The Fifth Wheel’.

As a mom, I’ve navigated a lot of different educational paths for my kids. We started with homeschooling my son, Santiago, but recently I transitioned him into school here in Los Angeles. It’s been a big change, and I’m happy to share how things are going for him now that he’s experiencing a more traditional school setting.

Longoria said he’s been thrilled with how much his son has enjoyed having classmates, friends, and birthday parties.

Despite having a large family, he’s always been comfortable around people, even while being homeschooled, she explained. It’s wonderful to see him growing and developing so well – it’s really enjoyable to watch.

You know, things have been a whirlwind with filming, but I’m starting to think about what’s next for my family. My husband, Santiago, really prefers life back in Spain, and honestly, it’s where his heart is. So, once I finish up with this project, we’re seriously considering moving back – it’s a big decision, but family is everything, right?

Honestly, family is everything to him. He has tons of cousins, most of them living in Spain and Mexico, and he just thrives when he’s around them – we all do! It’s like, we really prioritize being together. He’s at his absolute happiest with his family, so we just take things as they come, one day, one year at a time, always keeping family at the center of everything.

Eva Longoria, who is also a Spanish citizen, and her husband, José Bastón—a Mexican producer—have been living outside the United States while Longoria films her CNN series, Searching for Spain. This series continues her work from last year’s Searching for Mexico.

As a big supporter of Kamala Harris, I was really shaken up when I heard Eva Longoria say she was leaving the country. She explained she was worried about Donald Trump following through on his promises and making America a truly frightening place to live. It was a tough thing to hear, but it showed how deeply many of us felt about the election’s outcome.

The director of the Flamin’ Hot movie shared with Marie Claire in late 2024 that making films allows them a much-needed escape. They expressed concern that many Americans aren’t so fortunate, feeling trapped in difficult circumstances, and admitted to feeling anxious and sad about their situation.

She left after Donald Trump started appointing people to important positions for his next term, which surprised many in the Republican party.

Longoria has broken her silence on the disappointment of Trump winning the 2024 White House race.

What’s truly surprising isn’t just that he won, but the fact that someone with a criminal record who expresses so much hatred is now the country’s leader, the actor told Marie Claire magazine.

She believes their struggle isn’t over. The model, who worked with photographer Félix Valiente, also said that if he follows through on his commitments, things could become difficult.

She shared that she and her family are currently enjoying life by dividing their time between Mexico and Spain.

The actress received the title ‘Dame’ in recognition of her family’s heritage, as her ancestors originally came from the city of Oviedo in Spain.

Eva Longoria, who married José Bastón in 2016, bought a large mansion with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms in Marbella in early 2023. They then worked with architect and designer Nicolás Escanez to renovate the property.

Earlier this year, they began moving their possessions to their new villa, a spacious 1,531-square-meter home with luxurious features like an indoor pool, sauna, and a modern gym.

In February 2024, the couple reduced the price of their eight-bedroom Beverly Hills home from $22.8 million to $18.9 million, indicating they were eager to sell it.

Longoria explained that although her job often takes her to places like South America and Europe, she doesn’t get back to Los Angeles very often.

‘I had my whole adult life here,’ Longoria said of her former home in 2024.
‘But even before [the pandemic], it was changing. The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge.

I’m not trying to criticize California, but with issues like homelessness and high taxes, it just feels like it’s time for me to move on to a new phase of my life.

Longoria admitted she is ‘privileged’ to have the opportunity to live abroad.

Longtime friend and well-known Democratic fundraiser George Clooney also participated in the interview.

George Clooney and Eva Longoria have both been involved in political causes and have worked together to raise money for them.

He was adamant that he has been more of a fan than a mentor to Longoria.

He said she ‘really delivered’ with her work on Flamin’ Hot, a film about the story of a janitor who believed he played a key role in inventing the incredibly popular Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

Success in this industry isn’t just about natural ability. It takes a lot of effort, strong will, and sheer guts. We’ve seen many talented people fade away, but she’s remained popular because she’s incredibly persistent and doesn’t give up easily.

Also in the interview, Longoria talked about turning 50.

She believes age is just a number and is optimistic about the future, refusing to think her best achievements are in the past.

I’m really focused on my wellness routine. I’m trying everything I can to be healthy – from cold plunges and weightlifting to meditation and journaling. I prioritize natural rhythms by waking up with the sun and practice grounding techniques. I even use an Oura ring to monitor my sleep and take supplements like magnesium to support my overall health.

‘Not because I don’t want to age but because I do want to age.’

She also talked about what it’s like to be a woman working in entertainment, emphasizing her professionalism: ‘I’m always punctual and well-prepared,’ she explained.

In our business, it’s common for men to succeed despite failures. People often say things like, “How did he get that role? Wasn’t his last film a flop?” Yet, they still keep giving them opportunities.

‘That’s great, but I couldn’t do that. I don’t get a second chance.

I actually prefer being underestimated – it gives me the chance to exceed expectations. I’m confident I can work harder than anyone else.

Eva Longoria began her acting career in Los Angeles in the late 1990s with a role on Beverly Hills, 90210. She then went on to appear in popular soap operas including General Hospital and The Young and the Restless.

Four years after that, she landed the role of Gabrielle Solis on Desperate Housewives, and the show quickly made her famous nationwide.

The actress recently showcased their beautiful home in Marbella in Hello! magazine. They shared that they fell in love with the area twenty years ago, immediately dreaming of living there one day.

After that, we established the Global Gift Foundation, and it was there that Antonio Banderas, my close friend María Bravo, and I hosted our very first gala.

She leads The Global Gift Foundation, a charity dedicated to helping children, women, and families in need. Founded in 2013 by María, a Spanish actress, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, the organization works to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Her foundation, as stated on its website, aims to empower Latinas to create brighter futures for themselves and their families by supporting educational opportunities and encouraging entrepreneurship.

Longoria explained that she told Escanez five years ago to inform her when he found the perfect house.

I looked at several properties, but none of them felt right. Then, in early 2023, I found this house. It needed some work, but it was exactly the size and in the perfect location, she told Hello! magazine.

Since I was already in Barcelona for filming, I went and bought it that day.
