Euphoria backlash intensifies after ‘humiliating’ new scenes with Sydney Sweeney’s character Cassie

Fans are expressing increasing disappointment with season 3 of Euphoria after the latest episode. The show, created by Sam Levinson and starring Sydney Sweeney as Cassie, features the character exploring a career as an OnlyFans model this season.

The fifth episode, ‘This Little Piggy,’ began with a dream scene where Cassie grew into a giant, much like in the movie Attack of the 50-Foot Woman, and rampaged through Los Angeles, causing widespread destruction.

Cassie reportedly broke an office window with her breasts after discovering a man was watching and masturbating to one of her videos.

The show recently faced criticism for increasingly sexualizing Sweeney’s character, including depictions of pet play and age play, and these fantasy sequences follow that pattern.

One viewer questioned the show’s direction on its Reddit page, asking if ‘Euphoria’ had become simply a series focused on the humiliation of women. They added that the show felt tasteless, overly sexualized, and contained problematic undertones of racism, transphobia, and misogyny.

One fan commented that Cassie’s character has been reduced to a stereotypical, shallow portrayal, losing any depth or positive traits. They feel she’s become a caricature of herself.

Another viewer commented that it felt like the show’s creator was waiting for the characters to get older so he could increase the amount of sexual content.

He was eager to exploit Cassie for attention and spectacle, turning her into a public display. This season feels particularly focused on objectifying the women, and that’s notable considering how much of that has happened in the past.

Over on X fans have been just as vocal about the direction season three has taken.

One viewer expressed strong dislike for a scene involving Cassie, saying they wish it hadn’t been made and jokingly called for the show’s creator to be stopped.

Someone else commented that the scene with the giant Cassie felt pointless, and that each episode includes strange, attention-grabbing moments added by Sam Levinson.

“It’s gotten so tiresome to even say that #Euphoria is going from bad to worse.”

Someone else joked that Sam Levinson, after seeing the start of the Barbie movie, instantly imagined a scene with Cassie showing off her breasts in a sexually explicit way.

Okay, so I just heard the finale of Euphoria season 3 is dropping on May 31st, and it’s going to be HUGE – like, a full 93 minutes long! Apparently, that makes it the longest episode HBO has ever made. I’m already setting aside the whole night!

Zendaya, the lead actress who plays Rue in the series, has suggested this episode might be the final one.

During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the actor suggested that season three might be the last for the series, stating, “I think so, yeah.” They also reassured viewers that season three will provide a satisfying conclusion to the story.

New episodes of Euphoria season 3 are released every week on HBO and HBO Max in the United States. Viewers in the UK can watch the show on Sky Atlantic and stream it on Sky Go or NOW.
