In a world where money is both a character and a cruel joke, the spot Bitcoin ETFs sipped from the fountain of liquidity on Tuesday, netting $332.7 million. Meanwhile, their Ethereum cousins, with the grace of a deflated balloon, bled $135.3 million. Such is the whimsical dance of capital, as chronicled by SoSoValue.
Fidelity’s FBTC, the undisputed king of the blockchain ballroom, swanned in with $132.7 million. BlackRock’s IBIT, trailing like a hopeful suitor, brought $72.8 million. The rest of the court-Grayscale, Ark 21Shares, Bitwise, VanEck, and Invesco-nodded along, clutching their metaphorical champagne flutes.
Ether (ETH) ETFs, however, were the guests who forgot the dress code. Fidelity’s FETH, with the elegance of a spilled wine glass, lost $99.2 million. Bitwise’s ETHW, ever the understudy, slunk off with $24.2 million. Friday’s soiree saw an additional $164 million vanish, as if the funds had misplaced their wallets.
This reversal, of course, followed Ethereum’s brief August masquerade of prosperity. Back then, it danced into the spotlight with $3.87 billion, while Bitcoin ETFs languished in the shadows, outflowing $751 million. The irony! The theater!
Bitcoin’s “digital gold” narrative, that old chestnut, has once again dusted off its cape to play the hero. “Bitcoin is attracting institutional flows like moths to a flame,” said Vincent Liu of Kronos Research, “as gold hits all-time highs and macro uncertainty turns everyone into a nervous heir.”
“BTC is shining brighter than ETH, which now stumbles through a corridor of profit-taking,” he added, perhaps with a sigh. For as long as markets tremble, Bitcoin will wear its safe-haven crown, while Ethereum sighs into its champagne flute.
The crypto funds, with the tenacity of a moth to a flame, rebounded last week with $2.48 billion in inflows. August’s finale? A grand total of $4.37 billion. Year-to-date, the treasure chest swells to $35.5 billion-a 58% leap from 2024. Yet assets under management, like a guest at a late-night party, slumped 7% to $219 billion.
