In my professional opinion as a lifestyle expert, I’ve heard whispers that Richard Madeley might be parting ways with Good Morning Britain, following ITV’s significant reduction in their daytime programming lineup, which some are referring to as a ‘bloodbath’. It’s an interesting time in the broadcasting world!

The 69-year-old broadcaster, allegedly earning an annual salary of £300K, was reportedly enraged but successfully discussed a revised part-time agreement with management, resulting in reduced working hours and pay.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it this way: Lorraine Kelly, age 65, whose show has been reduced to a 30-minute slot, was allegedly asked to retire, but she chose to honor her reported £500K contract instead of leaving ITV permanently at the end of next year.

As a seasoned connoisseur of lifestyle and entertainment, I must share an intriguing tidbit that has sent ripples through the halls of ITV. The news of Richard, a towering figure in daytime television and a living legend, being let go, has been a buzz topic since midweek.

However, it was clear by Friday that Richard had a scheduled meeting with the network’s top executives, and as a result, his position has been adjusted to a more limited work schedule. Despite this reduction in working hours, he has managed to rejoin the show.

Reflecting on my recent milestone of 40 years on morning television, I was presented with an opportunity to retire, but I decided to honor my existing commitment instead.

TopMob have contacted Richard Madeley and Lorraine Kelly’s reps and ITV for comment. 

After learning that Lorraine and Loose Women will be cancelled for six months, it’s been confirmed by ITV Daytime executives that they are making significant reductions today, resulting in more than 220 job losses.

Host Lorraine has been affected by most of the channel’s reductions, as Good Morning Britain will air in her usual 9-10am time slot for approximately 22 weeks annually.

For the last 30 weeks of the year, Lorraine is scheduled to host every weekday, so Ranvir Singh and Christine Lampard’s substitute roles on the show are no longer necessary.

Lorraine’s program has been reduced significantly; it now airs for only 30 minutes, from 9:30 am until 10 am.

According to reports from ITV, they are planning to reduce funding for their daytime programming in order to put more money towards creating more drama series instead.

‘It’s important to reduce expenses, but we also want to ensure funds are appropriately allocated for the right productions. With costs rising everywhere, it’s crucial to examine these matters carefully.’

The source added: ‘Christine and Ranvir remain part of the ITV daytime family.’ 

This morning’s broadcast, featuring Alison Hammond, Ben Shepherd, and Cat Deeley as hosts, stays unchanged.

Today, I’m excited to share that ITV Studios is stepping aside, and from now on, the production of Good Morning Britain will be handled by none other than ITN – the team behind our trusted ITV News.

This implies a potential combination of teams, where those working on Good Morning Britain (hosted by Susanna Reid) might join forces with the team responsible for the channel’s news broadcasts.

Meanwhile, ITV said that it is unlikely any on-screen talent will be axed.

A representative from ITV explained that these changes are not related to the performance of any specific show, but rather aimed at safeguarding the future of daytime programming. The goal is to allocate resources for further investment in dramas such as “Mr Bates vs The Post Office” and major sporting events like the 2022 Football World Cup, along with popular reality and entertainment programs in the UK.

The bosses are delighted with all four of our shows, including This Morning and Good Morning Britain. These programs have managed to avoid any negative impact, and their online presence is thriving.

Kevin Lygo, Head of ITV’s Media and Entertainment Division, outlined the modifications: “We value daytime programming greatly, and these scheduling and production adjustments will empower us to carry on offering a schedule filled with news, debates, and discussions that viewers appreciate from familiar and trusted presenters. Additionally, these changes will lead to savings that can be channeled back into other program genres within our budget.

“By making these adjustments, we can streamline our news production, boost our nationwide, global, and local news content, and uphold our legacy of reliable journalism during a period when the public demands impartial and truthful news reporting above all else.

Lygo stated: ‘I understand that our future plans may affect the staff behind the scenes in our Daytime productions at ITV and ITN. We’ll collaborate with ITV Studios and ITN as they adapt their methods for creating shows starting next year, and we’ll assist them during this transition period.’

For more than four decades, daytime programming has been a fundamental part of ITV’s broadcasting plan. These modifications aim to enable ITV to keep providing viewers with top-quality news, opinions, and debates as we move into our 8th decade.

In a Tuesday afternoon gathering that Emma Gormley, head of ITV Daytime, called as an emergency meeting, the news was revealed.
