After finding fame on the hit HBO show Entourage, he decided to leave Hollywood and start over with a new life on a farm in Texas.
But Adrian Grenier would be open to returning to work in showbiz – if the conditions were right.
Josh Grenier says he’ll only consider acting in a film if the production team is willing to work around his schedule and location – essentially, if they’re willing to ‘come to him.’ He hasn’t acted consistently over the years, so this is a key requirement for him.
The 49-year-old actor told the publication on Monday that the entertainment industry is increasingly focused on his work.
The Texas state government recently invested $2.5 billion in film and television production within the state. They are also constructing three new movie studios close to where I live, he said.
He added: ‘I don’t see any reason why we wouldn’t just continue to film in Texas.’
Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and raised in New York City, Grenier says he still feels fondly about California, but now considers Texas to be his home.
The Devil Wears Prada star currently lives with his family on his 46-acre ranch in Texas.
In 2016, he bought his first home in Austin. A few years later, he and his wife, Jordan Roemmele, established Kintsugi Ranch in nearby Bastrop, which is about 30 miles from Austin.
They also run a ranch on their property and are raising their two sons, three-year-old Seiko and Evren, who was born last year.
He described life with a toddler and a baby as incredibly fun and lively, saying he ‘absolutely’ loves it.
He mentioned that he and his friends who manage their own digital assets often discuss how much they love their children.
During the interview, Grenier was joined by his Self Custody co-stars, Henry Cejudo and Garrett Patten. Patten also directed their new bitcoin action movie.
Grenier got back into acting with a short film called Self Custody, which was filmed close to his home – a perfect fit since he wanted to avoid extensive travel for work.
In the film Self Custody, Grenier portrays a rich businessman who initially gave Patten bitcoin as part of a signing bonus when Patten was his employee.
The story centers on Patten, a father down on his luck, who risks everything to recover a lost fortune worth millions. His search leads him into the dangerous world of the dark web.
The short film marks his first acting role in four years.
He first became well-known for his roles in the HBO show Entourage, which aired for eight seasons between 2004 and 2011, and the popular 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada.
Actor Bridger Zadina plays Anne Hathaway’s new boyfriend in the upcoming film, replacing actor Bridger Zadina who previously played her partner, Nate Cooper.
Grenier told Page Six he was disappointed he wasn’t included in the movie, but he’s hopeful he’ll be asked to participate in a future spinoff.
You know, I’ve been hearing a lot about why certain actors aren’t asked back for sequels, and it seems like this was a case where the negative reaction to his character’s choices in the first movie played a big role. Basically, the studio felt the public wouldn’t have been thrilled to see that character return, and that’s why he wasn’t invited back. It’s a tough situation, but sometimes public opinion really does influence those decisions.
He admitted everyone involved appreciates the film, even those who weren’t asked back for the sequel. While he was disappointed not to be included, he also recognized that some viewers didn’t like his character, Nate, which could be the reason.
