As a seasoned journalist with a wealth of experiences under my belt, I must admit that interviewing the Prince was a unique and challenging opportunity that doesn’t come along every day. It was like piecing together a complex puzzle, meticulously examining every detail to build a comprehensive picture of what truly happened.

Emily Maitlis admitted that she secretly talked herself through a panic moment in the restrooms at Buckingham Palace mere seconds prior to conducting her high-profile interview with Prince Andrew.

54-years-old, I, a devoted fan, had the incredible opportunity to interview the royal back in 2019. Now, I’m revealing an intimate detail – mere moments before our conversation, I had to quickly step aside and rush to the restroom to gather my composure.

The original interview has been transformed into a highly acclaimed, three-episode series on Amazon Prime Video.

After Ruth Wilson, the actress aged 42, who portrays Emily, a former Newsnight journalist, the story unfolds around her reenactment of the controversial car crash interview.

He was quizzed about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein which threatened to damage the reputation of the entire royal family.

Emily recounted to Good Housekeeping how she gathered her composure prior to a crucial career event: ‘I recall shaking hands with him, then quickly excused myself and hurried to the restroom. I locked the door behind me, collapsed in the corner of this elegant, overly decorated toilet.’

At some point, I found myself grasping the sink and pondering aloud, “Alright, what exactly is the focus of this interview?

Zero in on the main topic during this interview, and ensure each question is clear yet tactful.” (Also, remember to maintain a polite demeanor throughout.)

Canadian-born British journalist Emily commented that her past self wouldn’t have imagined that certain aspects of her life would become material for television dramas.

She added: ‘I just thought it was a hoot. I couldn’t believe it.

Isn’t it like living a dream to be acted by Gillian Anderson and Ruth Wilson? I can hardly imagine telling my younger self about this, as I wouldn’t have believed it.

After our recent discussion, I found myself shouldering an excessive amount of accountability post-interview, along with my dedicated team.

The journalist reported that certain individuals questioned him by asking, “What actions have you taken regarding the royal family?” or simply stated, “People are asking about your actions concerning the royal family.

‘Stuff that was way too big and put far too much responsibility on our team’s shoulders.

However, it’s quite unsettling to witness situations unfold in real life, as it stirs a strong feeling of accountability within us.

‘The thing I keep coming back to is, I’m a journalist, I just ask the questions.’

Additionally, she discussed her choice to part ways with the BBC in 2022, expressing gratitude towards the organization. However, upon reaching her 50s, she felt it was either the right time or never, leading to her decision to depart.

After working for the BBC, she has been featured in Channel 4’s election coverage, hosted a daily news podcast titled “The News Agents”, and served as an executive producer for the series “A Very Royal Scandal”.

Last week during a Google My Business discussion, Emily shared her personal experience with the interview process. Reflecting upon it, she admitted that revisiting the series brought back memories of the pressure and tension experienced while tackling the challenge.

Whenever I immerse myself in a drama, my heart races – it transports me back to moments when I found myself questioning, “Did I ask the right questions? Am I capable of handling this?

She added of her reaction to Prince Andrew’s demeanour: ‘I realised early on he would be candid in his responses. We never assumed guilt and it was an hour of his own words.

Regardless of his words, they were destined to create history. We understood that our chance to listen to the prince was unique and irreplaceable. Essentially, it served as an official account, should anything come of it.

‘We were building up the picture of what actually happened and it was quite forensic.’

During Richard Madeley’s questioning, when the interview concluded, she cautiously replied, “I believed he had put forth a great effort to recall his script.

As a devoted admirer, I found myself grappling with a journalistic quandary: He expressed a keen desire for us to capture additional footage, especially delving deeper into the Pizza Express anecdotes and suchlike. The question loomed large: Should I incorporate his requested additions in my final piece?

However, following the interview, he graciously led us on a tour of the palace and extended an invitation for us to return.

She expressed concerns about possible negative consequences that the interview might bring: “I am concerned about the potential repercussions.

His family suffered consequences. I worry about him just like I would any other person experiencing a decrease in standing. However, I stand by my decision to participate in the interview.

In my fervent enthusiasm, I felt compelled to add: “However, no definitive resolution has been reached for Epstein’s victims yet.
