Elden Ring Nightreign Should Inspire A New Staple Mode for FromSoftware
The game titled “Elden Ring Nightreign” stands out significantly in FromSoftware’s recent lineup, spanning over the last decade at least. While titles like “Dark Souls“, “Bloodborne“, and “Elden Ring” have offered the option for online collaboration or invasion of other players, these features have typically been considered supplemental rather than the primary focus. Contrastingly, “Elden Ring Nightreign” places a greater emphasis on its online aspect, making it the focal point.
The game titled “Elden Ring Nightreign” is a thrilling three-player cooperative experience, where players pick unique classes, materialize onto a map that’s randomly generated, collect treasures, and engage in battles against the game’s exclusive Night Lord antagonists. In essence, “Nightreign” demonstrates that FromSoftware isn’t afraid to innovate with fresh gameplay concepts, and its gameplay structure could well become a popular staple mode for future FromSoft action-RPG titles.
Elden Ring Nightreign Should Inspire Future FromSoftware Games to Have a Boss Rush Mode
Elden Ring Nightreign is Essentially One Long Boss Rush
In Elden Ring Nightreign, a game session unfolds over the span of two consecutive virtual nights. During each night, players traverse an expansive map teeming with diverse locations such as castles and mines hidden underground. These locations house a multitude of enemies, bosses, and characters drawn from the original Elden Ring game, along with valuable treasures they protect.
In the game Elden Ring Nightreign, the objective for players is to quickly explore multiple points of interest before darkness falls. Once night begins, a ring of fiery rain will surround the players. The goal is to grow as powerful as possible within this time constraint, so you can conquer the boss that appears at night, and ultimately defeat the Night Lord on the second night.
As a gamer diving into Elden Ring: Nightreign, there are numerous paths I could take on this expansive map, but the popular strategy nowadays revolves around tackling as many bosses as swiftly as I can. The main reason for this rush is that bosses in Nightreign drop the finest upgrades and a pile of Runes. These prizes help me find the best weapons and stat enhancements, all while raking in enough currency to level up. Given Nightreign’s time-sensitive gameplay, it’s essential for me to focus on battles that yield the maximum rewards – and that means blazing through as many boss arenas as I can before the Night’s Tide catches up with me.
Even with occasional encounters with common foes, the current playstyle for Elden Ring Nightreign (a term I’m using as a placeholder) has transformed the game into a series of boss battles, resembling a “boss rush” mode. This is an approach future FromSoftware games could consider incorporating.
Elden Ring Nightreign Isn’t The First FromSoft Game to Feature a Boss Rush
Approximately one and a half years post its release, the game ‘Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice’ introduced a specialized boss challenge mode known as ‘Gauntlets of Strength.’ In this mode, players engaged successive bosses from ‘Sekiro’ without dying. Successful completion rewarded new outfits and Memories which boosted attack power in the main game. Given the formidable strength of the bosses in ‘FromSoft’ history, re-engaging them offers a satisfying experience.
Incorporating a boss rush mode in a conventional action-RPG might prove challenging for FromSoftware, as some bosses are designed to be fought at advanced character levels. However, Sekiro successfully achieved a good equilibrium by maintaining the player’s attack power at a steady level throughout the game.
