The Metacritic rating for Elden Ring: Nightreign has been announced, and despite being their lowest evaluation in recent years from FromSoftware, it’s still an exceptionally high mark to surpass.
This version maintains the original meaning but uses simpler language to make it more accessible while keeping a natural flow of expression.
The game Elden Ring, on Metacritic, currently holds a score of 78. This is consistent with its rating on PS5, while the PC version has a slightly higher score at 81. Given that there are more reviews for the PS5 version, the overall average tends to be slightly lower. However, this score is quite good, but it doesn’t align closely with FromSoftware’s recent releases.
For example, Elden Ring has a score of 96 on Metacritic, while Shadow of the Erdtree is slightly lower. Armored Core 6 varies in the low-to-mid 80s depending on the platform. Sekiro falls into the high-80s to low-90s range, and every significant Soulsborne game has a score of at least 85. However, Elden Ring’s Metacritic score of 78 might seem a bit underwhelming, but it’s important to note that it’s still a strong launch amid an almost unparalleled series of fantastic titles. If you exclude re-releases and VR exclusives, you have to go back to Armored Core: Verdict Day in 2013 to find a major FromSoft release scoring less than 80 on Metacritic.
It turns out that Elden Ring shares the same Metacritic score with two other games developed by FromSoftware. Interestingly, this studio is known for creating dark fantasy and giant mech games, but in 2000, they also released The Adventures of Cookie & Cream, a game similar to Crash Bandicoot in terms of platforming that could be played on the same couch. In the same year, Armored Core 2, another one of their titles, achieved the same score. While some may argue that Armored Core 2 has a more substantial legacy, both games find themselves in an intriguing group.
As an avid fan, I couldn’t help but share my thoughts on the Nightreign review of our beloved Elden Ring. According to Will, it presents an unusually fast-paced interpretation of the Elden Ring journey. Instead of the traditional Soulslike elements, this game offers a surprising and capable blend of roguelike components that has piqued my curiosity.
While the notion that “Nightreign is Elden Ring at its most challenging” may sound daunting, I remain eagerly anticipating my adventure into this new realm.
