The latest Elden Ring Nightreign update version 1.02.2 is being released across all platforms, marking it as the biggest overhaul yet for FromSoftware’s unconventional co-op role-playing game in the action RPG genre. This update, one of the most player-centric in FromSoftware’s recent history, has introduced numerous enhancements and adjustments to bosses, making the game feel almost like a new experience for players.
Bandai Namco has shared detailed updates on their publisher site. To begin with, all characters labeled as “Nightfarer” have received a boost. Here are some of the main changes:
*Note that I’ve tried to keep the structure and information flow similar to the original text while making it more readable for a general audience.*
- Wylder’s skill got minor boosts for poise and stamina damage, but his special relic effects for added fire damage got significant buffs.
- Guardian gains more strength and dexterity when leveling, deals more damage with halberd guard counters, has greater “angle range” on his Steel Guard passive, and his ultimate art’s weapon portion has a wider range.
- Duchess now gains more dexterity when leveling, deals more damage with some dagger attacks, and her ultimate art’s invisibility lasts longer.
- Raider deals more stagger damage with greataxes and great hammers, and his skill has longer range. (Relatedly, dual-wield jump attacks for “some large weapons” now deal reduced stagger damage.)
- Revenant’s spirits have “adjusted” transparency, and you can now pass right through the spirits Helen and Frederick.
- Recluse deals more damage with the offensive Magic Cocktail, and this will cast spells more quickly. The relic effect that boosts her max HP after her ultimate has increased potency and now “persists until an attack is received, even after the art’s duration ends.”
- Executor has higher attack power with his Cursed Sword, which is higher still when it’s in its unleashed state, and some of his beast-form attacks will deal more damage.
- Ironeye didn’t receive character buffs, presumably because he’s already one of the best Nightfarers in the game, but his “extends duration of weak point” relic now extends the duration even more.

Several relic affixes with no particular bias have been strengthened in several ways. For instance, they now grant continuous health point recovery, health and energy points restoration upon attacking with certain weapons, runes as rewards for critical hits (previously this was a small fixed amount), and health restored when using items like healing boluses.
Some modifications have been made to a few player characters in this update, specifically the Grafted Blade Greatsword and Marais Executioner’s Sword. The changes seem geared towards reducing their power, often referred to as a nerf. One adjustment is that their passive effects now have a maximum limit, preventing an unending stack of stat boosts. However, they’ve also tweaked the strength of these effects, which could mean we’ll get more powerful faster. It doesn’t seem like FromSoft intended for players to have 10,000 HP or be able to defeat bosses with a single hit, though.
A frequently used item, known for enhancing posture stability and lessening harm during attacks that push you back, appears to have had its active time shortened, potentially lessening the formidable invulnerability that could be achieved by combining low health levels and being pushed back repeatedly.
The intended adjustments have been made to the Everdark Sovereign Equilibrious Beast, as we anticipated that certain modifications might benefit us.
The previously summoned Guardian, once condemned, now deals less damage in attacks. Summoning a condemned Guardian no longer raises their ability to block damage. Additionally, various actions of the condemned Guardian, such as responding to ranged attacks and choosing targets under specific combat rules, have been adjusted. Lastly, when Nightfarers are defeated, the dropped light will yield more enhancement.
The summoned Guardian, once it’s condemned, now does less damage in attacks. Summoning a condemned Guardian no longer boosts its ability to prevent damage. The way the condemned Guardian reacts to ranged attacks and chooses targets has been changed under certain combat rules. When Nightfarers are defeated, the light they drop will provide more enhancement.
Other supervisors have received an upgrade. Everdark Fulghor now inflicts more damage with certain strikes and, following FromSoftware’s usual pattern, it has a higher health pool and causes more stamina depletion upon guarding. Everdark Sentient Pest also delivers more damage when blocked, but the duration of stagger on some of its attacks has been shortened (possibly lessening the AoE combo stunlock).
Two additional aspects catch my attention. Initially, the damage inflicted by the Night’s Tide increases following the defeat of the second night boss, thereby restricting potential farming tactics.
Additionally, FromSoftware has made changes to the Holy attribute symbol, which was notoriously similar to the Lightning symbol. Now, the Holy symbol boasts a prominent dark orange hue, making it more distinguishable. What a wonderful day!
