Delighted Sekiro enthusiasts! The moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived – the Executor is here to satiate your desire to dodge enemy assaults. In the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, there’s a new feature called Deflecting Hard Tear, which allows you to deflect any incoming attacks at will, giving you the ultimate satisfaction of masterful defense!
Unfortunately, after the impact of the Miraculous Elixir wore off, you resorted to your familiar gameplay. However, with the addition of the Executor, you may now enjoy the Sekiro-like experience within Elden Ring that you desire.
As a devoted admirer, I’d describe the Executor as an unparalleled duelist, capable of dealing substantial blows in one-on-one encounters. His prowess doesn’t merely lie in his defensive maneuvers, but his mastery over enemy patterns makes him a formidable force on the battlefield. Understanding his foes’ moves can significantly swing the odds in his favor.
Regardless of whether you’ve mastered every boss’s strategy from past games or are new to the game, this is a guide on how to effectively use Executor in Elden Ring’s Nightreign to dish out maximal damage and cause your foes to wish they hadn’t been born!
Executor Abilities Explained

Ability | Type | Description |
---|---|---|
Tenacity | Passive | After recovering from status ailments, Executor gets a temporary boost to his attack and stamina recovery speed. |
Cursed Sword | Character Skill | Executor draws his cursed sword. This sword can deflect most incoming attacks to charge itself. Once the sword starts glowing, you can use its skills to deal a lot of damage to your target. |
Aspects of the Crucible: Beast | Ultimate Art | This ability turns Executor into a primordial beast that has a large health pool and can attack enemies with light or heavy attacks and a special move. |
In contrast to other abilities like Revenant’s Necromancy or Duchess’s Magnificent Poise, Tenacity, as an Executor’s passive, might appear less practical at first glance. However, its utility isn’t immediately apparent due to the unique way it activates: by allowing a status ailment to accumulate fully and then healing from it. Fortunately, this doesn’t prevent you from using boluses. In simpler terms, while Tenacity may not seem as beneficial as other abilities initially, it has its own unique activation method and can still be used with boluses.
Keep an eye on your status gauge, allow certain effects to impact you, but swiftly counteract them using items like Neutralizing Boluses to neutralize poison. By doing this, you can gain the benefit of the status effect without significantly reducing your health.
Moving forward, the character will possess the Cursed Sword, a powerful ability that can be devastating when wielded skillfully but may not prove effective if one is unaware of the enemy. To fully utilize this weapon, it’s advisable to hone your defense by practicing parrying attacks from various adversaries and attempting to predict their attack patterns.
To counter incoming assaults right as they’re about to connect, much like shield-parrying with a buckler, here’s how it works: As you successfully deflect sufficient attacks, your weapon will begin to accumulate energy, giving it a radiant golden glow.
This is the right moment to employ your weapon skill against your target. Fortunately, your deflect charges persist even after changing weapons or death, meaning you won’t have to concern yourself about losing them.
This skill has no cooldown, so you can enter and exit the Cursed Sword stance at any time.
Using the Cursed Sword comes with a significant downside: it significantly slows down your movement. While its strength can be impressive, the constant slowdown means it’s not always practical to wield.
Lastly, for the skill “Executor’s Ultimate Art,” there’s a feature called “Aspects of the Crucible: Beast.” This is a power that it’s wise to use when you find yourself approaching situations where you’ll likely have to battle large groups of enemies.
Compared to certain other Nightfarer’s abilities, it doesn’t deal the greatest amount of damage as an ultimate skill. However, in tight spots where you’re being swarmed by smaller enemies, it can prove quite useful.
Remember not to trigger it unless necessary, as activating it causes your Ultimate energy to decrease. Once it runs out, you’ll revert to your normal state, leaving you with fewer options for defense.
Best Weapons

The Executor boasts an ‘S’ grade in both Agility and Magic, simplifying the choice of weapons for him. Primarily, Katanas are the ideal options, given they cater to these attributes.
Due to his stamina problems, it’s best to steer clear of using heavy strength-based weapons such as Great Hammers, Greataxes, Colossal weapons, and their counterparts, whenever possible.
It would be ideal if he chooses either of these options, as they are his most effective weapons in the game. However, considering his playstyle emphasizes causing status ailments, the other choice could also work well if he’s aiming for a poison-focused strategy.
If you prefer shorter-range weapons that deal damage quickly, consider using the Reduvia Dagger. Keep in mind that these weapons are most effective when used up close against your opponent. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something less risky, you might want to try Elenora’s Poleblade. This weapon also scales with Dexterity and Intelligence, while offering a good reach as well.
This Arcane weapon is quite impressive, yet it doesn’t grow in power based on your Dexterity. Therefore, it’s not ideal to rely on it as your main weapon. Instead, consider using it sparingly when you need a longer range in combat.
As a sword enthusiast, if you’re looking to harness the full potential of your abilities, consider acquiring a Katana associated with Seppuku. And should you choose this path, remember to always have a Finger Seal with Healing properties on hand, ensuring you don’t unintentionally succumb to excessive bleeding while engrossed in utilizing your passive skills.
Best Relics

Choosing suitable relics may pose a challenge for Executor, but the most reliable choices would be those that boost his Dexterity, Magic, or Stamina. Furthermore, relics that enhance his physical attack strength could also prove beneficial.
Because the Executor excels at causing illnesses, carrying an item such as Night of the Wise, which switches your initial weapon to deal Poison damage, can prove quite useful.
Make sure to pick up the Executor’s Goblet at Small Jar Bazaar, as doing so will give you additional relics for your experiments.
In summary, ensure to adjust your relics according to the Nightlord you’re preparing to confront. For instance, before embarking on the Tricephalos expedition, select relics that boost your Holy damage potential.
As a devoted fan, I’d recommend boosting your resistance to sleep when preparing to face the fourth Nightlord. If you lack suitable relics, consider venturing to the Small Jar Bazaar and trading your murk for something that could prove beneficial in the upcoming battle.
Executor Expedition Strategies

The Executor is an exciting, high-stakes character with great potential for both single and team games. Yet, mastering his abilities requires a deep understanding of the enemies’ tactics, which could either elevate your gameplay experience or lead to defeat.
Regardless of whether you’re a fresh player or unfamiliar with the entire game/series, these suggestions should aid you in navigating Executor more smoothly.
- Use your ultimate art to fully heal: One of the best uses of Aspects of the Crucible: Beast is that when you are at very low health, you can use it to turn into a giant beast. Not only does this increase your health bar while you are in this form, but once your ultimate is over, your normal HP will be back at full health. This lets you save up flasks for more crucial moments.
- Finish the Ultimate with the weapon skill: If this ultimate wasn’t already strong enough while also giving you HP restoration and decently powerful attacks for crowd control, you also get a weapon skill. This move lets you do a slash that can do a lot of damage to the nearby enemies. The catch is the moment you use it, your Ultimate Art gauge drains completely, so the only time you should really be using it is when the Ultimate is about to get over, and not a moment before.
- Carry Pickled Turtle Meat: While Executor has a B rating for Stamina, which is fairly good, he can still very easily run out. This could happen both when you are attacking with your regular weapons, or end up deflecting attacks earlier than needed with your Cursed Sword. Unlike characters like Wylder with Claw Shot or Ironeye with Marking, Executor doesn’t have any escape abilities. So, having faster stamina recovery can be a savior.
- Guarding attacks also charges Cursed Sword: This is much slower than when you deflect attacks, because you need to guard a lot more hits for it to work. Not to mention, you are always at the risk of having your poise broken. But deflecting early and guarding some attacks can still pay off, as you would either get the timing right and deflect the attack, or would simply end up guarding and not taking hits.
- Sprint to sheathe your Cursed Sword: Don’t waste time fiddling with the combination button prompts to re-sheathe your Cursed Sword when you’re done with it. Press the sprint button, and you’ll put it away automatically.
Best Team Comp

These are the best characters to team up with Executor:
Guardian

It’s not unexpected that, given Executor’s role as a high-damage but vulnerable character, he often struggles in battles – particularly when outnumbered. But having a tough-as-nails character like Guardian, who boasts substantial health points for tanking, can significantly improve his chances of survival.
In a battle, Executor’s health can quickly deplete if his defenses are breached and he takes a significant hit while blocking enemy attacks. However, don’t worry because Guardian is always ready to step in. If only one Near Death bar is left, Guardian can restore Executor with regular attacks, or if the Near Death gauge is fully depleted, Guardian can revive Executor instantly using his special move, Wings of Salvation.
Because Guardian boasts a ‘B’ rating for Strength, it allows him to effectively wield weapons that frequently disrupt an enemy’s attack sequence. This tactic could prove advantageous for Executor, enabling him to charge in for swift strikes with his Katanas and potentially inflict some debilitating status effects.
If durability isn’t a concern when using the Executor, and you’re interested in dealing more damage, consider swapping out Guardian for Wylder as an option. Alternatively, Duchess, another agility-focused character, can work effectively with Executor due to her skill, Restage.
Revenant

With Guardian taking the brunt of attacks and Executor dealing damage and harassing the opposition, Revenant excels in a supportive role. This setup aligns flawlessly with her strong Faith and Intellect attributes.
In this team composition, it is best for Revenant to employ her summoning abilities to assist her allies when they need to divert an opponent. Additionally, she should ensure that either Great Heal, Lord’s Heal, or Erdtree Heal is available whenever Executor or Guardian has low health, particularly if they have run out of flasks.
If the team is performing admirably and doesn’t require healing, Revenant can participate in the festivities instead. With spells such as Black Flame, Rotten Breath, Placidusax’s Ruin, or Elden Stars, she can significantly contribute to reducing the health of the boss.
Absolutely, I’ve found that The Revenant has its challenges, particularly once she leaves the Frontline. Her HP is relatively low, and she isn’t as versatile in combat compared to some other party members. However, if Duchess is part of your team, swapping Revenant for Ironeye can significantly boost your physical attacks. On the other hand, if Wylder is with you, Recluse might be a better choice for dealing magic damage.
