The Commander in Elden Ring’s Nightreign faction, active during the night, is an exceptional adversary for three players. He boasts a variety of tools such as summons, enhancements, and far-reaching attacks to challenge you. To even the odds, he may summon troops, but beware, he also has a massive health reserve and few obvious vulnerabilities. However, understanding his abilities and adapting your strategy can make this boss fight seem easier than expected.

Overview of the Battlefield Commander in Elden Ring Nightreign

In the adventures of Equilibrious Beast, Sentient Pest, and Night Aspect, you’ll encounter the Battlefield Commander as the main adversary on the first night. This boss is particularly tough, employing area-of-effect (AoE) attacks with Scarlet Rot and summoning troops during the battle. Mages and long-range combatants like Nightfarers will find this confrontation more manageable, especially if they have a melee fighter to distract him. However, despite his supporting roles, the Battlefield Commander can prove surprisingly difficult in hand-to-hand combat. His halberd attack sequence is unpredictable, and the timing of its swings can be misleading, making it tricky to dodge effectively.

Weaknesses of the Battlefield Commander

In summary, the Battlefield Commander’s slow pace and reduced attack rate make him vulnerable, particularly for ranged players who can keep their distance and consistently inflict damage. Melee combatants can take advantage of this by attacking from behind and avoiding his halberd attacks. Tips To Easily Defeat the Battlefield Commander

  • Begin assaulting the Battlefield Commander with heavy attacks as soon as he spawns. If he attempts a summoning or buffing move first, you will likely stagger him from the outset. 
  • When the commander summons soldiers, use AoE attacks or spells while they are grouped up and focus them down quickly. The Ultimates of Wylder, Ironeye, Guardian, and Raider are particularly effective in this regard. 
  • The most dangerous move to watch out for is Scarlet Whirlwind. The boss thrusts his halberd into the ground, creating a swirl of Scarlet Rot. The whirlwind’s size increases when the commander’s health is low. Dodge away quickly and rush back in once the Scarlet Rot disappears to land a few free hits.
  • The Battlefield Commander has only one halberd combo attack. It consists of three slow swings of the weapon followed by a slam on the ground, which causes AoE Scarlet Rot damage. Dodge away and create some distance once the move starts. When the boss finishes the combo, dash in and batter him with heavy attacks. 
  • In the melee, the boss can take a slow step forward and stab his halberd at you. The attack is delayed, and you have to dodge when his advancing foot is about to land. You can also circle the commander and sidestep the halberd.
