Elden Ring Nightreign Has A Tricky Requirement To Find All Of The Dark Souls References
Summary
- Elden Ring Nightreign has worn its Dark Souls references on its sleeve since it was revealed.
- As it turns out, though, there’s even more nods than you might expect.
- You’ll have a tough time getting to see them, though, as there are some tough unlock requirements.
In Elden Ring, known as Nightreign, there are numerous nods to Dark Souls that extend beyond the likeness of the Nameless King and Solaire. However, uncovering them all will prove to be an incredibly challenging task for you.
Ever since Elden Ring Nightreign made its debut at The Game Awards last year, it’s been one heck of an unexpected move from the masterminds over at FromSoft. I mean, who would have thought they’d dive into online battle royale and roguelite territory? And that’s not all – it seems like they’ve taken elements from their past Soulslikes to create something truly unique. It’s got me on the edge of my seat!
Fans of FromSoftware games swiftly noted that Nightreign includes several bosses from Dark Souls series, an unexpected element within Elden Ring’s universe. As the release of Nightreign drew nearer, we began to notice increasing references and signs suggesting a surprising blend of worlds by FromSoft. However, there’s still more to uncover in the complete game.
Elden Ring Nightreign Features A Bunch Of Unlockable Dark Souls Skins
Good Luck Getting To Them, Though

It was previously mentioned by FromSoft that Solaire would appear in Elden Ring Nightreign through a unlockable skin (specifically for the Guardian), but this isn’t the only Dark Souls reference hidden within the game. In fact, every character in the game boasts two purchasable skins that pay tribute to characters from the Dark Souls series, ranging from Havel the Rock to Siegward and his distinctive Onion Armor.
For instance, Wylder’s appearances are inspired by Artorias the Abysswalker from the original Dark Souls game, and a skin that hints at the Faraam set from Dark Souls 2. In contrast, the Revenant sports skins based on Sister Friede and the Sorcerer set, while Recluse includes allusions to Karla from Dark Souls 3 and The Emerald Herald from Dark Souls 2.
It seems like those small nods and Easter eggs sound enjoyable, don’t they? However, if you wish to acquire these skins, be prepared for some intense work since they can only be purchased upon defeating Elden Ring Nightreign’s ultimate boss. Keep in mind that this task is already challenging, but reaching the final boss requires you to conquer four distinct Nightlords beforehand.
Elden Ring Nightreign Is Basically Guess Who For Dark Souls Fans
It’s intriguing that the Executor, who is referred to with male pronouns (he/him), lacks a clear gender identity, making it unique among the characters in this game as it has both female and male appearances inspired by Dark Souls.
After accomplishing that feat, I can grab these sweet skins for 7,500 Murk – an in-game currency, no sweat! It’s a steal compared to other character skins out there, a little nod perhaps from FromSoftware recognizing the grind you’ve been through so far. And let me tell you, it’ll be a well-deserved treat after slaying those insanely challenging bosses!
