Some Relic effects offer you a free Stonesword Key at the start of your run, which can also be found hidden behind the altar near the boss in the Great Church location. You can use this key to open the locked Evergaols, where defeating the bosses awards you a selection of Dormant Powers. Among these powers are one that gives you a significant amount of runes (in multiples of 10K) and two others that increase the number of runes you receive by 10% permanently.

It’s also plausible that the Stonesword Key could be found atop a Fort’s tower. After conquering the Fort, you can access maps on the desk within the tower, revealing the positions of nearby Field Bosses and Scarabs. This interaction will signal that you have ‘obtained a local hint’.

Merchants are also a potential source for Stonesword Keys.

Unfortunately, the choices seem random, and I may not always be lucky enough to see the rune boost option during my battles.

Maximize Your Time

During your run, you might choose to swiftly move past weaker enemies, focusing instead on the main adversary in each region as you progress. This becomes increasingly important as you advance to higher levels, as it allows you to make the most of the time remaining before your final confrontation. Conquer the sub-boss, collect your rewards and Dormant Power, then continue your journey ahead.

With Spectral Trees, you can quickly teleport Spectral Hawks to places suitable for farming runes or gathering rewards using the fast-travel feature.

In Limveld’s dynamic global landscape, these unprecedented occurrences reshape the open world, thereby presenting numerous chances to amass various runes. Seize the map modifications when they become available, as your journey will yield substantial benefits not only from the main reward but also from the hidden advantage gained upon defeating the mini-boss.

Losing Runes on Death

During daytime skirmishes, there’s a chance you might lose valuable runes or even entire stages. Although you can retrieve the lost runes from their location, they may be snatched up by adversaries before you reach them. However, you can easily spot the thief of these glowing golden runes due to their radiant aura. By defeating them, you’ll regain your stolen runes and levels. Unfortunately, if you die without retrieving dropped runes, they are lost forever, forcing you to spend additional time gathering more.
