Elden Ring Movie Director Is More Than Familiar With The Game
Given the rapid success of Elden Ring in becoming one of the greatest video games ever made, transitioning the world of the Lands Between to the big screen seemed like an obvious choice. The project is spearheaded by Alex Garland, known for films such as Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War, who will both write and direct this upcoming movie, demonstrating his familiarity with the game.
In conversation with IGN, Garland declined to disclose any film details, yet he clarified his approach to conquering the challenging Starscourge Radahn, a foe that has left players puzzled. Moreover, he admitted he was in the midst of his seventh playthrough.
Garland remarked that Radahn seemed quite manageable. He found the battle straightforward because once you activated the characters who could aid in the fight, they would engage him, reducing approximately half of his vitality. The rest was simply a matter of finishing him off. The key, according to him, is finding and activating those summon signs scattered around.
However, who was the problem for Garland that you’re referring to? Indeed, that would be none other than Malenia, the Blade of Miquella.
According to Garland, it’s Malenia who proves to be the formidable opponent. He mentioned he has played the game seven times over, building up his character with increased levels, powerful items, and an impressive sword, yet he persists in confronting her repeatedly. This strategy, he explained, was honed from his experience with Dark Souls games. “It’s not so much that you improve,” Garland said, “it’s more like a monkey typing at a keyboard – you just keep trying, and eventually, one day she’s defeated.
The movie was only recently announced less than a month ago, so specific details are scarce beyond the fact that Game of Thrones co-writer George R.R. Martin will be one of its producers. He will collaborate with Peter Rice, Andrew MacDonald from DNA, and Allon Reich on this project.
Beyond the movie version, Elden Ring also spawned a spin-off game named Nightreign, which garnered mostly positive feedback from critics. In just its first day of release, it managed to sell an impressive 2 million copies, and within five days, that figure rose to 3.5 million.
