Einstein pilot lands Criminal Minds vet (and we're here for it)

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours binge-watching procedurals and crime dramas, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement when I hear about a new pilot like “Einstein.” The fact that Matthew Gray Gubler, a familiar face from the long-running series “Criminal Minds,” has landed the lead role, only adds to the anticipation.

So far, CBS has chosen to focus on procedural shows for their pilots. After all, who can argue with that approach? The drama-comedy “Einstein” is currently in the pilot phase, and it recently welcomed a veteran actor from “Criminal Minds” onto its cast.

Matthew Gray Gubler has been chosen as the main actor in a new series. That must mean we’re all buckled up and ready to go, correct? Even though it might mean fewer appearances on Criminal Minds: Evolution, we’re definitely looking forward to him taking center stage in his very own show!

What is Einstein about?

As reported by TVLine, the show is adapted from a German dramedy with the same title. In the original German series, the story revolves around Felix, portrayed by Tom Beck. However, in the American adaptation, we’ll focus on Lew, Albert Einstein’s great-grandson instead. Lew holds a tenured professorship at Princeton and enjoys job security; but his rebellious behavior puts him in legal hot water.

He has to make a deal with the local police detective. He can avoid more trouble ifhe helps her solve her most puzzling cases. It really does feel like this is Spencer Reid in another life just reading that!

As a devotee, I’ve always felt the burden of my renowned forebearer’s legacy, a weight that seems to follow me everywhere. The anticipation from others to mirror my ancestor has led me down some questionable paths over time. There have even been instances where I’ve missed classes entirely! But perhaps this turning point will bring clarity and purpose to my journey.

Einstein hails from the Monk creator

On two separate occasions, efforts to revive the American version of an ‘Einstein’ series have taken place. The first effort, back in 2020, was led by Albert Einstein’s illegitimate great-granddaughter, but it didn’t succeed. One could argue that the timing might have been unfortunate given the global situation at the time. The latest attempt is spearheaded by Andy Breckman, who created the popular series ‘Monk’.

In 2018, even NBC made an attempt at telling that same story, but it too didn’t progress beyond the proposal stage.

For now, all eyes are on this latest attempt by CBS. We’re sold with Gubler in the lead.
